The Starline A62 alarm system uses the “Fast Dialogue” technology with a crypto-resistant dialogue code and a personal encryption key. Thanks to this, the likelihood of electronic hacking of the system is minimized.
Starline A66 is the most reliable security system in its category
Among the models considered, the A66 alarm system has an undeniable advantage. Its functionality is much more extensive, and its security system is an order of magnitude higher than that of the A64 and, especially, the older A62. We can say that this system is a modernized version of previous versions, combining the reliability of Starline security and the latest developments in the field of automotive security systems.
Despite the fact that the A66 car alarm is an inexpensive option, the actual degree of protection it provides is not inferior to higher-class models. The system is equipped with a tilt controller, as well as a two-level shock sensor. If desired, the alarm functionality can be expanded by adding GPS and GSM devices. The automatic start function is carried out when installing security equipment connected via Can-bus.

Basic alarm functions
Options that are implemented in the Starline A62 Dialogue system:
- Controlling the security mode using a key fob or a button to enter the service mode. In the second case, the user's personal password is used.
- The presence of passive blocking of the machine engine.
- Anti-robbery option. This function is intelligent and is used to block the motor in the event of a forceful seizure of the vehicle. After the attack, the user can enable the option, which is activated after 30-60 seconds. This is done for the safety of the car owner, so that the attacker drives away from him, but does not go far from the crime scene.
- Self-diagnosis when protective mode is turned off. The alarm system tests its main elements and identifies failed equipment. Information about this is displayed on the communicator screen.
- Possibility of separate opening of door locks.
- Bypassing the non-working protection zone. If defective security zones were detected during the check, the system will bypass them.
- The presence of a memory module built into the microprocessor. The control unit stores data about alarm events indicating the zones that led to their activation. The memory module also stores information about the system state. If the power is turned off, when it is turned on again, the alarm will return to its original state.
- Preservation of the power unit locking in case of dismantling the alarm system.
- Possibility of installing and connecting additional shock and sensitivity sensors.
- Silent security function. When the alarm mode is activated, the siren does not sound. Information about this is sent only to the communicator with a display.
- Panic mode. Its essence is to activate alarms and lights upon command from a pager. This will scare away potential intruders from the car and designate the vehicle as protected.
- Calling the car owner. The implementation of the option was made possible thanks to the presence of a button on the transceiver module.
- Control of door locks from the ignition system.
- Monitoring the battery charge in the pager. Information about the operation of the battery is displayed on the key fob display.

Reviews from drivers using Starline A62, A64, A66 alarm systems
Reviews about the A62 alarm:
Positive | Negative |
Convenient, good alarm system. It rarely works without a reason. In 4 years of use I have only changed the button on the key fob once, and it works great. | Installed on a Ford Focus in 2012. At first it worked well, but after about a year it started to malfunction. I went to the service center where they installed it for me. The guys reconfigured it, but it doesn’t work as clearly as before. The range of action has decreased and does not work the first time. I will say this: the signal is not bad, but short-lived. |
Inexpensive and reliable alarm. There are all the functions for a budget car: LCD display, shock sensor, feedback. Quite enough for my Fifteen. The screen clearly shows whether the car is closed or not, and what exactly is open: the doors, trunk or hood. There is a function to block the engine in case of theft. I think that with such protection you can sleep peacefully. | Not the best option that is offered on the market. The functions are quite weak. Everything you need, for example, a GPS module, must be purchased separately. There is also no auto start, which is extremely inconvenient in winter. I got this alarm along with the car I bought. I'm using it for now, but I'm thinking of changing it soon. |
Reviews about the operation of the A64 alarm
Positive | Negative |
I have had an a64 2can slave car alarm for 3 years now. There have been no glitches the whole time, nothing to complain about. I didn’t find any disadvantages, only advantages: reliability, high-quality communication (the response is always the first time), a large radius of operation of the key fob. |
Reviews of Starline A66
Definitely not worth the money. The usual two-way alarm system, nothing interesting. To enable at least autostart, you need to buy a special module, which is expensive. Why do this if you can buy it already with all the necessary functions and much cheaper. | |
The alarm has a dialogue code, which, according to the manufacturer, provides 100% protection against theft. I've had my Passat for over a year. It works great, the car hasn't been stolen yet. The controls are convenient, I especially like the large button on the remote control. The key fob itself is not very miniature, but it is comfortable in the hand, and it does not consume batteries as much as my previous alarm. | Not the most successful of Starline products. By paying a little extra, you can get the same A96 with a more advanced security system, a motion sensor and auto start. I can’t say that it works poorly, it’s just that the price does not correspond to the quality and functionality. |
Positive | Negative |
Works steadily. Very good reception radius, works even through several thick walls. We connected via CAN bus, the whole process took no more than 4 hours. | The price of the signal is clearly overpriced. Despite the fact that the kit does not include a GPS module with an antenna, you have to buy it separately. There are only 2 relays in the box, although this is clearly not enough for connection via the CAN bus. The instructions are written rather vaguely, there is no clear installation guide for CAN. It seems that manufacturers deliberately confuse people so that they contact their service center for installation. |
Efficient and functional alarm system. Starline has never let me down yet. There were some problems, but this was due to a slightly “crooked” installation. Some functions were written incorrectly. It’s good that there are many service centers, I went to the nearest one and set everything up for a small amount. | Recently installed A66 on a 2014 Mazda. Among the shortcomings, I would like to note the inconvenient, large key fob and the rapid drainage of the battery when the alarm is working. I also don’t like some of the confusion in the controls; the old system was much simpler. Honestly, I expected better from Starline. |

- Affordable price with extensive functionality and reliable operation of the system.
As reviews from car owners about the Starline A62 alarm system show, this model has no serious shortcomings.
Self-connection of a security system to a car
To install a car alarm with your own hands, you need to have some experience in working with electrical circuits and strictly follow the manufacturer's recommendations. The standard instructions for car alarms Starline A64, A62 and A66 contain a detailed diagram of the installation and connection of all elements of the system.
Installation instructions
Installation manual for Starline A62:
- The ignition and all electrical devices in the car are turned off. It is necessary to de-energize the on-board network; to do this, disconnect the terminal with the negative contact from the battery.
- A microprocessor is installed inside the vehicle. To install the unit, you should choose a place that is maximally protected from external influences, moisture and elevated temperatures. The module is installed on a flat surface, preferably behind the instrument panel, this will ensure a minimum length of wires for connection. Plastic clamps or self-tapping screws are used for fixation. To protect the microprocessor module from moisture and vibration during driving, the device can be additionally wrapped in cellophane and foam rubber.
- A siren is installed under the hood of the car if one is to be used. The use of this device is not necessary, since alarm signals can be organized using the steering horn. If an autonomous siren is used, then during installation it is necessary to ensure free access to the keyhole installed in it.
- A transceiver with a built-in antenna is placed on the car window. The glass surface is first cleaned and degreased, which will ensure high-quality contact. There should be no electronic devices or metal parts of the body within 5 cm of the transceiver. Their presence will cause interference and reduce the range of the key fob.
- The shock and sensitivity sensor is installed in the car interior, preferably in the central part of the body. For installation, you can choose a metal partition separating the engine compartment. The device is fixed on a flat surface using plastic clamps, screws or glue. The use of plastic or rubber gaskets is not allowed; this will lead to incorrect operation of the sensor and its premature operation.
- Limit switches are installed on the hood, trunk and doors. Installation of devices is not permitted in drains. The wiring from the sensors is routed to the microprocessor module.
- The button to enter the service mode is located inside the car. It is recommended to hide it, but in such a way that the consumer has access to the device from the driver’s seat.

The StarLine2011 channel in its video showed in detail the process of installing the Starline A62 alarm using the example of a Peugeot 308 car.
Autostart faults
If the Starline A91 autostart does not work, make sure that:
- On cars with a manual transmission, the “soft neutral” procedure was performed, and the car was not disarmed after that (disarming disables the autostart reservation). The handbrake indicator must be lit.
- There is no indication on the key fob screen that the door or hood is open (not closed enough or the limit switch is faulty). Check and correct the problem.
- While near the car, try performing a forced auto start. If the command is not processed at all (the ignition does not turn on), check the connection of the autostart power relays and the condition of the fuses. If the ignition is turned on, the starter operates, but starting does not occur, check the functionality of the immobilizer bypass. If the engine catches, but the alarm turns off the ignition after that, this means that it does not recognize the fact of starting (it does not receive a tacho signal if it is configured for it, or there is no transition in the signal level from the generator when configured to “lamp” - depends on the specific connection and requires inspection by an auto electrician).
User manual
According to the operating instructions, after installing the car alarm, you need to check the operation of the security mode. If the door locks lock and unlock when you turn the security on and off, you can begin setting up the system.
Setting up the key fob
Before using the pager, you must insert a working power source into the device. The battery is inserted into a special compartment located behind the back cover of the key fob.
To use all options, the communicator must be linked to the control unit:
- When the ignition is turned off, the button to enter the emergency alarm maintenance mode is pressed 7 times.
- The key in the lock is turned to the “ACC” position. When entering the key fob programming menu, the pager will emit 7 beeps.
- On the remote control, press keys 1 and 2 simultaneously and hold for several seconds. You can release the buttons after one siren signal is heard. If linked, an icon in the form of an open lock will appear on the pager screen. These steps are repeated for each key fob being programmed. No more than 5 seconds should pass between pairing devices, otherwise the alarm will exit the programming menu.
- To complete the setup process, the ignition in the car is turned off. The lights should flash three times.

- To activate the selected function, briefly press the third key of the key fob, to disable it - the second. The setup menu is automatically exited after two seconds if the user does not press any buttons during this time.
Setting up autorun
Starline A62 alarm systems do not have an automatic engine start function. But its implementation is possible after installing an additional module. To do this, you can use Starline devices (for example, M31) or other analogues. Depending on the model, control is usually carried out through calls or SMS messages. The module, receiving a command with a certain code, performs the function remotely.
Emergency alarm shutdown
If the communicator from Starline A62 is lost or damaged, the security mode can be disabled using the service button:
- The driver's door is opened with a key. This will trigger the siren alarms.
- The key is inserted into the lock and turned to turn on the ignition. After activation, the button to enter emergency service mode is pressed several times. The number of “clicks” must correspond to the first digit of the personal code.
- The ignition in the car is turned off. If a unique password is programmed, the security mode should be disabled. In confirmation, the car's external lights will blink twice. If the code is two-digit, then similar steps are repeated to enter the next character.
Factory reset
To reset all parameters to factory values, perform the following steps:
- The car's ignition is turned off.
- The emergency service mode entry button is pressed 9 times.
- The key is turned in the lock to turn on the ignition. To confirm entering the reset menu, the siren will sound nine times.
- Then the service mode key is pressed one more time. One siren signal will indicate that the settings have been reset.
