Lada Kalina 2011 - owner review

On the one hand, I sold it because I wasn’t happy with it (first of all, the low ground clearance, insufficient stability on the highway and the cost of spare parts), and on the other hand, I didn’t really need the car at that moment. But by winter there was a need for a car, because... a move out of town was imminent, and a long-awaited replenishment began to loom on the horizon.

There was no particular torment, because... I decided that it would be better to take a very fresh domestic product than to poke around among 10-year-old foreign cars. The requirements were approximately the same as when choosing the previous car, namely: 1. Car after 1st owner for 2-3 years, mileage up to 40 thousand; 2. Budget up to 300 thousand; 3. Trunk capacity (station wagon only); 4. Fuel consumption no more than 10l/100km 5. Torquey engine for confident driving both on the highway and in the city; 6. Manual transmission. From domestic to my requirements at the end of 2013. At the moment, only the Lada Kalina station wagon and the Lada Priora station wagon with 16kl engines were suitable. 98hp I looked at several Priors and a strong feeling of deja vu arose, as if I had returned 5 years ago, when I owned a VAZ-2110. Everything is very similar. I have nothing against the Prior, but the most hated thing from the top ten remains - the cramped interior space. Therefore, I decided to look towards Kalina. In appearance, the Kalina does not look larger than the Priora and it seemed that I would have to refuse this option, but after sitting in the Kalina I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the interior and ergonomics. In my opinion, it is more interesting than Priora. I looked at a couple of Kalina station wagons and settled on the most worthy version, in my opinion, produced at the end of 2011. dv. 1.6 98hp, from the first owner, in excellent condition. Air conditioning, all electric windows, electric mirrors, heated seats, power steering, 2 sets of tires (winter without wheels). Price 260 thousand.

We were pleased with the large mirrors; visibility in them is at a very good level. Fuel consumption on the b/c showed an average of 7.5 l/100 km. According to the previous owner, he never reset it and didn’t even understand what it was. Because operation was mainly in Moscow, I think this is a normal figure. I figured it out quickly with the used one, everything is simple, there are the following parameters: power reserve, average consumption since the last reset, instantaneous consumption, temperature, gasoline spent since the last reset, engine operating time since the last reset... that seems to be all. I took out insurance, registered, and received a “beautiful” number 004, 77 region in the usual queue.

52500 (June 2015) No charging. Repair of the generator - 1000 rubles, replacement of the diode bridge. For prevention, I replaced the timing belt and pump, because... I’ve read a lot of passion on forums about how people’s belts break and valves bend around 60,000 km. Salary price with work – 5500 rub.

53300 (June 2015) Replacing brake fluid for prevention. The asking price is 300 rubles.

The rest of the time: Only AI-95 gasoline, washer fluid.

Pros of my car:

Cons of my car:

– The seats are soiled, everything sticks, but can be easily wiped off with a special brush – Soft factory alloy wheels (it’s easy to bend, but I see this as a plus – they can withstand impact and do not transfer unnecessary loads to the chassis elements) – EUR (you have to get used to it at first, it’s not very informative) – Weak windshield (the crack appeared last summer because on a hot day I turned on the air conditioner with air blowing on the glass. Probably a fool myself, but still) – The rear door washer tube is frayed at the bend at the entrance from the body to the door (can be treated by inserting a tube , which the child drinks juice with + a lot of electrical tape) – Stupid decision on the mechanism for engaging the reverse gear (the wire is exposed to moisture, it is difficult to insulate it)

Otherwise (in my opinion) it’s a great car for the money. The air conditioner cools, the stove heats, oil and other fluids from replacement to replacement without topping up.

Now there are already 4 people in our family and it has become difficult to travel long distances, because... Not all our clothes fit in, but once every 1.5-2 months we try to visit our parents who live 500 km away. We’ll save up for something more spacious, but for now I hope to torture Kalina for another six months or a year.
