Transmission oil MOBIL ATF Dexron VI: description and analogues

GM Dexron 6 is a transmission oil from General Motors. The concern uses it as standard for its production machines. The composition is recommended for filling into most vehicles of the automaker.

Dexron is not a brand or model of ATF, but a specification recognized throughout the world. It was developed more than 50 years ago and describes the properties that transmission oil must have in order to ensure normal operating conditions for the automatic transmission.

Main properties of the composition:

  • Meets the stringent requirements of six-position transmission manufacturers. Can be used in components equipped with hydraulic booster. Designed to work in metal/metal friction pairs.
  • Good temperature stability. Oil freezes at -60°C. In Russian winter conditions, it ensures normal operation of the automatic transmission and transmission and does not create problems at start.
  • Resistance to oxidation - decomposition into simpler substances under the influence of high temperatures. This means that the product does not age and is not produced over a long period of time. Motorists nicknamed it “unchangeable,” although this is not true - any liquid sooner or later requires replacement.
  • Availability of extreme pressure additives. The specificity of automatic transmission operation is such that it creates high sliding loads - the parts rub against each other. This is dangerous for the film created on their surface. A special additive increases the strength of protection.
  • Low sulfate ash content - when burned, very little sediment is created (tenths of a percent of the volume). It is not able to affect the quality of the automatic transmission. Therefore, it is not necessary to wash the component every time it is replaced.
  • Compatible with materials for the manufacture of gaskets, seals and other parts.

There are two types of composition - regular and High Performance. The latter is used in heavy equipment - road trains, transport vehicles operating in difficult conditions, etc. HP grease has a wider package of additives that increase its performance properties.

Automatic transmission oil ZIC ATF DEXRON 6: transmission, synthetic

Transmission oils are a lubricant used to reduce friction in gearbox mechanisms.
The main function of the lubricant is to create a protective shell on the surface of the operating elements of the transmission system. The use of ZIC ATF Dexron 6 oil reduces wear and the risk of corrosion of gear mechanisms, differentials and other parts. After the rebranding, instead of tin cans, the manufacturer began to bottle the product into plastic canisters.

Description

ZIC Dexron VI gear oil is a lubricant of synthetic origin. Zik's product is developed based on the original Yubase base oil. The necessary properties are achieved due to a homogeneous structure. Improving the characteristics of synthetics at the molecular level makes them an order of magnitude better than their mineral counterparts.

Adding additives to the composition allows the oil to maintain its original state of aggregation. Due to this, sediment does not form on the lubricated parts and the duration of use increases. Additives improve the sliding of mechanisms, softening the hard running of transmissions.

Zeke Dextron 6 protects the elements inside the transmission from the effects of friction. Practically does not settle even during long periods of parking. It is worth noting that using this oil reduces the heating of mechanisms and the noise level. Lubrication minimizes the vehicle’s energy consumption aimed at operating the automatic transmission. Viscosity characteristics allow it to withstand temperatures less than -50°C and more than 200°C above zero.

In the consumer market, gear oil has proven itself to be one of the best. There were no obvious shortcomings of the product, but there are enough positive reasons for purchasing.

Advantages of ZIC ATF 6 gear oil:

  • It rarely requires replacement due to its high quality;
  • tolerates temperature changes and intensive work with gears;
  • provides a smooth ride when changing gears;
  • low price for the product among analogues.

Main advantages of the composition

The company says the oil reduces friction twice as much as other products. At the same time, it has an extended replacement interval and is resistant to oxidation and foaming. You have to change the ATF no more often than after 5-7 years of car operation.

Compared to the previous version, the kinematic viscosity of this composition is lower, amounting to 6.5 centistokes at a temperature of 100°C. It better retains lubricating properties at high temperatures, thereby reducing wear of parts and fuel consumption.

Authoritative experts in the automotive industry speak about the advantages of the product:

  • Roy Fox, GM Powertrain Transmission Fluid Division Manager: “The amount of testing for this formulation has increased significantly. Therefore, we are completely confident in the declared characteristics.”
  • John Sunn, director of transmission company Afton: “The oil is superior to existing formulations in all respects. Therefore, it is very difficult to bring the composition into line with it.”
  • Craig Paterson, one of the leading purchasing managers: “To produce this formulation, we will have to use higher quality base oils and additives. I expect procurement costs to increase."

One of the requirements of the standard is its compatibility with previous specifications. Therefore, it is possible to gradually transfer the transmission to this composition. But there are a number of subtleties, and it is better to make a decision after consulting with a car mechanic.

Applicability: for which boxes and cars

ATF ZIK Dextron 6 is intended for cars with automatic transmission. Since 2006, it has been used by General Motors as a base oil for automatic transmissions and has the appropriate license No. J60003. Increased friction properties ensure smooth gear shifting.

The product is mainly used for four-stroke modern passenger cars, which are more demanding on the properties of lubricants. Guarantees smooth operation of six-position automatic transmissions. In order to select the necessary modification of the Zic lubricant, refer to the vehicle’s operating instructions.

Transmission oil is changed at intervals recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. However, regular use can delay replacement and eliminate the need to wash box parts.

The oil itself belongs to the Filled For Life category, that is, it can be filled for the entire life of the vehicle. But initially you should start from the recommendations of the car manufacturer.

Temperature fluctuations do not affect the characteristics of the lubricant. A good base and product additives will withstand harsh winters and heat. Exhausting traffic jams and trips in high gears also do not affect the ZIC ATF Dexron 6.

Changing the power steering oil

If the power steering mechanism works properly and without leaks, the composition needs to be changed every 1-2 years , depending on the manufacturer’s instructions. Periodically you need to check the fluid level; it should be between the minimum and maximum marks.

Adding fluid

The lubricant in the power steering can gradually evaporate due to high temperatures in the system. If during the service interval some of the mixture has left the power steering system, you can add the required amount. To do this, open the expansion tank, fill the product up to the MAX mark, turn the steering wheel, pump the system and, if necessary, add more.

Complete replacement

You can change the power steering oil using two jacks, a syringe and a container for waste material.

  1. The front of the car must be raised so that the wheels are in the air.
  2. Open the expansion tank and use a syringe to pump out the bulk of the old mixture.
  3. Next, you need to remove the main hose from the pump, it is usually located below, and lower it into a container to drain.
  4. Turn the steering wheel to bleed the mechanism, wait for it to drain and put the hose in place.
  5. Remove the return hose, lower it into the same container, pump it and install it back.
  6. The engine must be turned off during this procedure.

When the used material is completely drained, fresh material can be poured in. Pour in up to the maximum mark, pump the mechanism by turning the steering wheel. Part of the composition will leave the tank into the system; you need to top it up again. It is necessary to pump and top up several times until the entire power steering mechanism is filled and the oil is at the same level.

How is it different from competitors

When looking for automatic transmission fluid, pay attention to manufacturers that have proven themselves in the market. Cars with automatic transmissions are demanding on lubricants. Good viscosity, temperature resistance, operating time and other factors are important; another important criterion is cost-effectiveness. ZIC ATF VI transmission oil meets all necessary requirements and is used by drivers around the world.

List of advantages for which consumers value it:

  1. acceptable price. Low cost bonus - a rare replacement due to the use of high-quality YUBASE base in the production. There are many opportunities to purchase goods wholesale and retail in the Russian Federation;
  2. fuel economy. Improving the friction characteristics of gearbox parts reduces fuel consumption. Corrosion protection will extend the life of the automatic transmission. Low ash content (sediment formation) extends the application interval until the next replacement;
  3. provides comfort during gear changes due to smooth shifting;
  4. neutral in relation to different types of sealing materials and gaskets;
  5. temperature changes do not greatly affect the characteristics of the oil. Loss of fluidity occurs at -52.5°C;
  6. Can be used as a top-up liquid. However, dilution of Dexron 6 with other types is prohibited.

What do car enthusiasts think?

Feedback from motorists about the compounds is positive. They confirm the advantages declared by the manufacturer. Products manufactured by General Motors are used mainly by owners of the concern's cars. Dexron VI standard substances are among the most popular on the market. They are used by almost all owners of cars produced in 2006 and later.

The frequency of oil changes is individual for each driver. It depends on the type of driving, the quality of the roads on which you have to travel, the climate of the region and other factors. Those who use the car moderately replace this ATF approximately once every 7 years.

How to spot a fake

Using counterfeit oil can lead to unforeseen problems associated with the failure of expensive components. But the Zik company has taken care of protecting its products, so in order to purchase an original product you need to pay attention to the following packaging elements:

  1. fluid intended for automatic transmissions always has a red label located on a red canister;
  2. hologram with the company logo on the central inscription and stripe;

  3. at the bottom of the canister there is an embossing with the ZIC logo and the date of production of the canister;
  4. the cork is covered with a protective film;

  5. Under the lid there is additional protection in the form of laminated foil.

Reviews and opinions

Alexander, 35 years old I have been using products from this manufacturer for quite a long time. There have never been any problems with either engine or transmission oil. Platon, 41 years old Copes well with the task, always shifts smoothly. There are no problems in winter, the pour point is quite low. In the summer it also showed its best side. Dmitry, 27 years old High-quality transmission fluid with a long service life. As practice has shown, it really saves fuel due to its low viscosity. Igor, 44 years old Zic atf dexron 6 is used as first-fill transmission oil at GM factories, there is an appropriate license for this. I think this automaker will not trust anyone. This is one of the criteria that you should pay attention to when choosing.

What kind of oil to pour into the power steering

Most often, car owners distinguish power steering solely by color - red, green and yellow. But its other characteristics are much more important:

  • Kinetic viscosity
  • Operating temperatures
  • The raw materials from which it is made

Red products are made on a synthetic basis, very rarely on a mineral basis. These mixtures are included in the ATP and are used on a limited number of models. Mineral red oil is often a Dexron 2 and Dexron 3 . Red compounds are poured into transmissions; Dextron is rarely used in power steering.

Yellow oil is made on a mineral base, this makes the cost of products more affordable. The yellow hydraulic mixture is used in both hydraulic boosters and air suspension.

The green mixture can be made from both synthetic and mineral components. It is more viscous than yellow and red. Green lubricant is never poured into an automatic transmission.

find out which oil is suitable for a particular model in the car’s owner’s manual or on the top of the expansion tank cap. The manual contains recommended parameters and the name of the composition, the same information is usually written on the lid.

Product Description

High-quality synthetics Mobile ATP Dexron 6 is made on the basis of a liquid obtained by hydrocracking processing of crude oil, which guarantees the absence of foreign impurities that can harm the mechanism. To improve the properties of the product, a wide range of highly effective additives is used here. Alkaline additives minimize the formation of sludge deposits. Friction modifiers prevent overheating of the mechanism and increase the efficiency of the car.

Another group includes depressors. The components allow the mixture to withstand critical frosts without losing the necessary fluidity.

Application

Mobil ATF Dexron 6 lubricant is designed for modern GM transmissions manufactured after 2006. The lubricant is also suitable for older models of machines. There is full compatibility with 4, 5 and 6 position automatic transmission units. At the same time, the design of the power plant, its power and the type of fuel consumed are not of fundamental importance.

Users note suitability for servicing specialized equipment if they have the appropriate approvals.

Dexron 3 or 6 is needed there. Look at the oil tolerances. I have LiquiMoly TopTek 1200 there.

In general, according to the tolerances, it should correspond to the 3rd Dexron, but I would recommend the 6th.

Yeah, according to the collective farm. We take a bulb, excuse me, suck it up to the top hose, fill in a new one. We start it, turn the steering wheel (or you can go for a ride). Pear again, etc. By partial replacement, I poured 2 cans of liquimoli into it in a week.

You can, of course, do a complete drain, but it’s a hemorrhage, you then have to pump it out of air, etc.

Well, that’s correct, but I don’t have a garage, and there’s nowhere to carry out these procedures. I changed the pads practically in the field in the summer. Therefore, according to the collective farm.

The oil there doesn’t deteriorate much; within a year it differs almost nothing from what’s in the bottle. I changed it solely out of fear that the hoses would not be torn off in the cold, because... native oil is thicker and more viscous.

How to spot a fake

After 2022, the company has introduced a new method for identifying original packaging. The technology eliminates the possibility of copying by 95% due to the high complexity of the production process.

The manufacturer's logo is printed on the front of the package. In the inscription, the letter “O” glows under ultraviolet radiation. At the bottom of the label there is a special field with convex metal inserts. There is also a QR code here.

To establish the authenticity of MOBIL Dexron VI, you will need to follow a simple procedure.

  1. Use your smartphone to scan the field.
  2. After going to the site, information will be displayed on the screen.
  3. The data from the website must fully correspond to what is on the label.

To determine the authenticity of the old packaging, it is necessary to study the external parameters.

  1. The lid fits extremely tightly to the package. There is a foil membrane under the plug.
  2. The canister is molded from high quality plastic. The material can withstand severe frosts without cracking or deformation. The presence of casting and soldering defects is also excluded.
  3. Stickers are printed on factory machines. The presence of grammatical errors, blots and typos is unacceptable.
  4. The date of manufacture of the container is marked on the bottom of the container. The difference between the information on the cylinder and the label should not be more than 1 month.
