Even not very long and not particularly long trips showed that it is, in principle, possible to sleep in my Niva, unfolding the rear sofa, emptying the contents of the trunk, and placing all sorts of “soft crap” on the floor. But the procedure of rearranging things, especially when it is repeated many times (and it is repeated at least twice), is annoying, to put it mildly. It’s quite easy for me to get an overnight stay on my own, but when there are three of us (me, my wife and a child), things become more complicated. In the summer, our algorithm for preparing for an overnight stay looked like this: - we take out all the contents of the luggage compartment and the rear of the cabin from the car; - we fold out the rear sofa, dismantle sofa cushion; - lay rugs and blankets on the floor; - fully unfold the driver's seat; - partially return things to the cabin (in free spaces), partially hide them under the car; - my wife and child sleep in the back, I sleep on the unfolded driver's seat. Preparing for departure means doing everything listed in reverse order.
I decided to make a so-called “sleeping bag”. It seems to me that the term “folding bed” is more suitable here, but this is not important. The very solution of a “telescopic”, sliding frame structure has already been implemented many times on “large cars” (Landcruisers, Patrols, Patriots, etc.). I have not seen such designs for the Niva (perhaps I was looking poorly). There were some options, but I didn’t really like them.

Engine
The power unit was left virtually unchanged - it is still the same 1.7-liter engine with distributed fuel injection, meeting the Euro-4 toxicity standard. The changes include the installation of more modern and reliable sealing materials with a silicone bead, a new type of water pump oil seal, as well as a new fuel supply system with quick-release connections. All engine characteristics also remain the same.
Transmission
The transmission has been modernized much more seriously. First of all, a new clutch from Valeo was installed - the same one that is installed on the NIVA-Chevrolet.
