Niva 2131 is a restyling of the 2121 model. Mainly the car body has undergone changes. It became five-door to provide more comfortable entry for passengers. At the same time, the useful volume of the trunk has increased. All this led to a change in dimensions. The length of the car increased to 4240 mm, while the width remained the same - 1680 mm. Because of this, the wheelbase had to be increased. It is now wider than the width of the car to ensure stability when cornering.
Niva 2131 is all-wheel drive and was created specifically for off-road driving. Therefore, the ground clearance has been increased to 228 mm. This is necessary to overcome bumps and unevenness.
The Niva's trunk volume is now 420 liters with the seats folded down. The maximum useful volume is 780 liters. The total weight of the car is 1350 kilograms. In this case, the car can additionally transport up to 500 kg of cargo.

5-door Niva: interior
Let's move inside the Niva car. As you know, this SUV was created on the basis of the classic Zhiguli, so it is not surprising that many parts were borrowed from there. As for the interior, you can see the panel and steering wheel from the VAZ-2107. In terms of noise insulation, the Niva, of course, is far from being a leader. Many owners de-noise the body themselves by disassembling the interior down to the screw.
With the advent of the new Urban model, the situation has changed for the better, but not significantly. The instrument panel is now positioned from the “ten”, the steering wheel has a more convenient shape. The panel has changed slightly, but overall retains its angular features.
The only advantage worth noting is that it has a better level of equipment. "Niva" 5-door has electric windows, as well as electric mirror adjustment. But as owner reviews note, the 5-door Niva, even in its maximum configuration, is not equipped with music. This upsets many buyers. It is also worth noting the very noisy operation of the stove. There is no air conditioning here.
What distinguishes the long-wheelbase Niva from the short one is the rear row. The architecture of the seats here is the same, but the distance to the apron of the seats is an order of magnitude greater. Rear passengers will not feel cramped, unlike the three-door Niva. In this regard, the five-door deserves praise.
Car exterior
Since the start of production of the car, its appearance has remained virtually unchanged. In modern vehicle design, a square body shape, round headlights, and laconic bumpers are a classic option. This model has rear doors on the left and right sides. This makes it easier for passengers to board and disembark. This modification is worth talking about separately. It was released in 2015. However, there is no need to talk about a full replacement of the model. This is most likely a restyling of the old Niva.
Externally, the car began to look nicer thanks to a larger plastic bumper and a modern radiator grille. The shape of the mirrors has changed. As standard, the car began to be equipped with alloy wheels. There are not many changes in the interior. The instrument panel now stands at “ten”, the door cards have changed. It must be said that the new five-door Niva received a good set of options. These include electric windows, heated seats and mirrors. And in more expensive versions there is air conditioning. But there is still no music, which is frustrating. In technical terms, changes are minimal. It still has the same fuel-injected 1.7-liter engine. The dynamic and performance characteristics are the same as those of the previous Niva.

Usually, when people talk about Niva, they remember the short version. These models are especially suitable for driving in off-road conditions and are distinguished by their special cross-country ability. In the Russian automobile industry you cannot find cars that can drive better in such conditions. And even the famous UAZ is slightly inferior to this SUV in cross-country ability (due to its greater weight and dimensions). But do not forget that the strength of the body was not designed for constant off-road use. Under intense loads, this primarily affects it. A couple of years of such operation is enough for dents to appear in the load-bearing elements of the body and cracks in the side members. Therefore, car owners often overthink and in every possible way strengthen the load-bearing elements of this part of the SUV.
In urban conditions, the body can also suffer significantly. “Niva 2131” has poor corrosion resistance, and can be compared with classic bodies. Clearance is not sufficient protection against threshold corrosion. The most unprotected places are the joints of body parts, the edges of the fifth door, and the windshield frame. Cars produced in recent years are often poorly painted, so corrosion can appear in absolutely any place. For these cars, it is advisable to carry out measures every year to treat the body with an anti-corrosion compound and preventive tinting. When it comes to strength, this is truly the best car in terms of rigidity and durability.
In 1999, Niva 2131 received updated lightweight bumpers. Before this, an aluminum bumper could be used to break fences. The extended body slightly worsened cross-country ability, but naturally improved handling. There are rumors among car enthusiasts about long bodies that they sometimes break in half, and where there are no roads, they twist like a screw. This applies to the very first Niva 2131 cars and three-door models, which were not particularly durable. But in subsequent versions, the rigidity and strength have improved significantly, and now there are no problems with this.
