One of the most popular domestic passenger cars, the VAZ-2114, whose colors vary in dozens of palettes, has replaced the famous “nine”. Samara-2, by today's standards, has an outdated body design - angular contours indicate considerable age. However, cars of this family attract attention with their harmonious proportions and neat design of body elements. Moldings on the doors, a body kit, and a spoiler with an additional brake light add some attractiveness.

Excellent geometric cross-country ability is facilitated by high ground clearance (175 millimeters) and short body overhangs. However, in 2115 the latter are still noticeable.

Despite the fact that the front panel design of Samara-2 is fundamentally new, its ergonomics are not much different from its predecessor. And that's not a bad thing. The steering wheel still does not block the dashboard readings, and controlling the climate control with sliders is intuitive.

Typically, a VAZ-2114 in black or another shade is classified according to a special label. It is located on the spare tire, in the glove compartment or trunk. The name of this card is “Form-3347”. The color is marked with a number because it often has an original name that is not related to its actual display.

Manufacturers often recommend that users write the color number on the inside of the fuel filler door. If the vehicle was purchased on the secondary market, the previous owner may have worried about this point. The warranty card also contains information about the color of the VAZ-2114 (photo of the car below). The information is recorded in the upper left corner using a special form (near the VIN).

How to determine the color of a VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115 by year of manufacture

This summer I decided to change the bumpers to new ones. I reached under the spare tire to look at the color number on the plate. The sign was there. There is only one BUT: it was NOT FILLED! The second sign was not in place at all. The documents for the car listed the body color as “graphite metallic”. I started searching on the Internet: how to determine the color? The project to modernize VAZ models that belonged to the Samara-2 family began to be implemented in 1997. From that moment on, prototypes of the Lada 2115 began rolling off the assembly line. This car was the ideological successor to the 21099 model and in many ways these two sedans were unified with each other.

The history of serial production of “Fifteenth” begins only in 2000. It is noteworthy that 21099 lasted on the assembly line until 2004 and all this time the models were positioned in the same niche.

The VAZ 2115 was somewhat superior to its predecessor in terms of design. In particular, it is worth noting a different configuration of lighting optics at the front and rear, more rounded front fenders and a hood. Also, new bumpers, a radiator grille, a spoiler on the trunk lid (also new) with an additional brake light and a body kit were installed.

The interior received improved finishing materials and a new steering wheel. The layout and architecture of the instrument panel, as well as the center console, have been changed. The loading height of the luggage compartment has become lower.

How to paint a car with your own hands?

It is best to entrust the painting of the VAZ-2114 blue or another shade to specialists. If the car was purchased on the secondary market, and you have some experience, you can perform the procedure yourself. To carry it out efficiently, it is necessary to assess the general condition of the car, wash and clean it well. Potholes and scratches are removed before painting.

Preparation for the main process will require considerable time. This includes:

• removing the old layer and cleaning the body;
• welding, straightening problem areas;
• putty, primer, body polishing;
• preparation of appropriate equipment and tools.

Painting process

As already mentioned, choosing paint using the traditional method will not be easy, so pay attention to the numbers in the table. Areas not to be coated should first be completely isolated. For this, special film or paper is used. The room in which the procedure will be carried out should be protected from moisture, dust and dirt.

Before your first experience, it is better to contact a knowledgeable assistant. The quality of the coating depends on maintaining the optimal proportions of the mixed components. The finished mixture must have the appropriate viscosity, achieved using the desired ratio of solvent, primer and enamel. The minimum number of layers applied is three. The main process is carried out using a spray gun. Any metal surface is suitable as a training ground.

What does metallic mean?

Metallic paint is a type of auto enamel to which aluminum powder pigment has been added. The metal filling makes the composition reflective. The body begins to shine and sparkle in the sun.

The advantages of the technology include the fact that the surface of the body better reflects heat, so the interior heats up in the sun much less.

In addition, metallic has high anti-corrosion properties, so saffron milk caps appear less frequently.

Additional aluminum particles protect the paint from fading. The car looks “new” for much longer.

After a certain period of use, rust spots may appear on the VAZ-2114 in the “Snow Queen” shade (there is one). Often the owner decides to resort to painting himself. If this is your first experience, the process may take two to three weeks if you devote no more than 2-3 hours a day to the process. First, preparatory work is carried out, including degreasing, sanding, priming, and putty.

Required tool:

1. Grinding machine, grinder with emery wheels.
2. Regular and fiberglass putty.
3. Epoxy primer, special varnish.
