According to experts, the appearance of any car is largely determined by the type of wheels installed on it. Therefore, owners usually pay a lot of attention to how vehicle rims look. Domestic cars are no exception. Any plant completes its products with accessories that ensure decent performance characteristics of the equipment. Let's try to figure out how the wheels of VAZ cars differ, including the products that are equipped with models 2114 and 2115.
How the rim models of cars produced in Tolyatti during the Soviet period changed over time
The Volzhsky Automobile Plant, which is the largest domestic automaker, has produced a sufficient number of passenger vehicle models over the years. And until now, the manufacturer has not given up its position, offering consumers new types of products that constantly occupy leading positions in sales rankings. Since the moment when the first car (VAZ-2101) rolled off the assembly line in 1970, dozens of brands and modifications of budget cars have seen the light of day.
To equip vehicles, wheels with different characteristics were used (the table clearly demonstrates the differences in the wheels of VAZ cars of different models).
Table. Comparison of disk models that were installed on VAZ cars
Model | Description of disks | Photo |
VAZ - 2101 | Disks from FIAT-124 (4.5″ wide and 3.7 cm offset) were installed, which had 8 oval-shaped holes for ventilation. In addition, the cars were equipped with wheels with the same parameters, but with 16 round holes. Protective and decorative functions were performed by chrome caps. In the nineties, the width of standard wheels was increased by 1/2 inch per penny.
VAZ-2103 (2102, 2106) | This model was equipped with wheels 5″ wide and 2.9 cm offset. The appearance remained unchanged (16 round holes for ventilation). Decorative caps on the third and second models were installed the same as on the VAZ-2101, while accessories with a black trim were used on the “six”. In 1995, the diameter of the central hole increased to 6.05 cm
Niva | The cars of this brand were equipped with 16″ wheels. 5 bolts were used to secure them. The discs had 12 round holes and an offset of 5.8 cm.
VAZ - 2105 (2107) | The wheels of these models began to look more original: the central cap was no longer installed, there were 4 or 5 ventilation holes, they received rectangular outlines.
Samara | The first cars with front-wheel drive were equipped with wheels with a 4 cm offset and a new design. They were not designed to accept hubcaps (there were no tabs), and the mounting bolts did not close. Subsequently, the width of the disc was increased to 5″, and the ventilation holes were reduced in size. |
Now it’s clear how to distinguish VAZ car wheels (standard) by external characteristics.
Almost all passenger cars produced in Tolyatti during Soviet times were equipped with 13″ wheels. Many modern cars coming off the AvtoVAZ assembly line are equipped with such stamped wheels.
Parameters of standard bolts
The disks are fastened with a 19 mm wrench using steel bolts M12x1.25x27, where 12 indicates the diameter, 1.25 is the thread pitch, 27 is the length of the threaded part. The seat has a cone shape for reliable fixation and centering.
The use of bolts that do not meet the technical requirements leads to vibration of the wheel and contributes to its separation.
What criteria are used to select disks?
A large number of wheel options are produced for the VAZ 2115 and VAZ 2114 models. When choosing a suitable option, you need to pay attention not only to their appearance (which, of course, is of great importance for every car enthusiast). Compliance with a number of parameters largely determines the durability of the disks, even when operating under significant loads.
Important parameters
Each product is usually marked. Not everything in it is clear to a less experienced car enthusiast.
What is usually applied to the disc by the manufacturer:
- rim seat width;
- diameter;
- disc ejection;
- bolt pattern;
- center hole size.
Wheel rim marking option: 5Jx13 ET29 PCD4x98 DIA58.6.
Explanation of the abbreviation:
- ET29 - departure. It depends on the size of the wheel rim. The smaller the offset, the wider the wheelbase.
- 13—wheel rim diameter (in inches). It may vary depending on the type of tire and wheel installed.
- DIA58.6 - hub hole size (in mm).
- PCD4x98 - number and diameter of mounting holes. This parameter must correspond to that set by the car manufacturer.
- 5J - wheel width (in inches). It may vary depending on the size of the rubber being mounted.
Installation of wheels that are not included in the line of products recommended by the car manufacturer can often be possible only after tuning. At the same time, changes are being made to the design of the braking system.
How tires and wheels for the VAZ 2115 are designated: the dimensions can be seen in the photo:
Material
Today, car owners have many more options for completing their vehicles than even twenty years ago. When choosing a suitable model, it is recommended to pay attention not only to the appearance and cost of the products, but also to take into account the driver’s driving style. There are three types of discs on the market.
Steel wheels
The vast majority of AvtoVAZ vehicles are equipped with just such wheels. Their main drawback is their not very presentable appearance. It is this circumstance that does not allow stamped products to be popular with many car owners. Although steel wheels have enough advantages:
- The biggest plus is the affordable price of the products.
- On the road, a car equipped with such wheels behaves very confidently.
- If iron wheels are damaged, it is possible to restore them (such equipment is usually available in any tire shop).
- Wheels made of steel are more reliable (compared to their light-alloy counterparts) when operating a vehicle in difficult conditions.
In principle, in terms of price/quality ratio, stamped wheels still look quite attractive today. In addition, to increase the visual appeal of the wheels, they can be covered with decorative caps (however, they are periodically lost when driving, for example, through snowdrifts). In this case, the rust that appears on the iron will not be visible. Steel wheels for VAZ 2114 or VAZ 2115 are quite popular.
Alloy wheels
The biggest advantages of these products, made of aluminum alloy with the addition of magnesium, are their lightness and aesthetics. Moreover, there are so many disc options available that it is possible to satisfy the needs of any equipment owner. Alloy wheels do not rust (the only decorative coating can be damaged by the reagents used to treat roads in winter), they correctly distribute the load on the suspension. In addition, there is no additional need to purchase caps. Of course, the cost of aluminum models is significantly higher than the price of stamped ones. But, despite this, these products are increasingly being chosen by car enthusiasts to equip their vehicles. However, it must be taken into account that defects that appear on such discs (during operation in winter or, for example, after driving at high speed on a not very smooth road surface) cannot be eliminated. Therefore, in some cases it is preferable to use steel models.
Standard fasteners are often not suitable for installing light alloy wheels. Therefore, you have to purchase an additional kit.
A certain difficulty can also be the discrepancy between the size of the central hole of the disk and the hub. For example, the VAZ 2114 hub has a diameter of 58.6 mm, and the disc hole size can be 67.1 mm. To install the wheel, you will have to purchase a special spacer 67.1/58.6 mm.
Important! When choosing wheels for VAZ 2115 and 2114: the dimensions of the hole and hub must be taken into account.
Forged wheels
These products belong to the most expensive product segment. Models made from light alloys under high pressure are characterized by excellent strength characteristics, long service life and attractive appearance (but, of course, forged products do not have the variety that the line of cast products can boast of). If the car enthusiast is a fan of sports driving, this option is the most preferable.
Tire selection and storage
- The tire type must be appropriate for the season and road surface conditions. When the average daily temperature is below 5 degrees, you should switch to winter tires, and when it is warmer, to summer tires.
- Summer tires harden at low temperatures and lose grip on the road surface. Winter ones wear out intensively at high temperatures.
- You should not buy studded winter tires if you have to drive on city streets cleared of snow without leaving the city. The studs are good on snow and mud, but do not perform well on asphalt.
- Before storage, tires must be cleaned of dirt and washed.
- Tires should be stored upright on the floor or rack without any sharp edges that could damage the rubber.
- It is unacceptable to store tires hanging from the inner surface - in this position, the edge of the tire adjacent to the rim will be deformed.
- Do not store tires in direct sunlight or outdoors.
- It is unacceptable to place heating devices near tires.
Which wheels are suitable for VAZ 2114 and VAZ 2115
These models, produced by AvtoVAZ not so long ago, were very popular and are actively used today. The 14th model became a restyled version of the VAZ-2109, and the “tag” became the VAZ-21099. Both of them are part of the LADA Samara line.
Standard wheels for these vehicles are 13″ in diameter. If wheels for VAZ 2114 R13 are used , tires with a sufficiently large profile are installed on them.
In addition, it is possible to equip the car with other wheels, including those with a larger diameter. At the same time, you can select accessories without tuning the car. If you want to equip the iron horse with wheels with a diameter of 14 inches, you don’t need to make any special calculations (the only thing you need to take into account when it comes to wheels for the VAZ 2114: the landing parameters should vary from 5 to 6″ (this is indicated in the documentation for the car) ). In this case, the most recommended tire options for installation are: 185/60 R14 and 175/65 R14 (car enthusiasts are more likely to lean towards the first type of tire).
Wheels for VAZ 2114 R15 can also be used to equip a vehicle. However, in this case it is necessary to choose low-profile tires. And we should not forget that since such equipment is not provided by the manufacturer, this point can lead to problems when the car undergoes periodic inspection.
Similar wheels are installed on the Lada 2115. If we consider tires and wheels for the VAZ 2115: the (standard) parameters are as follows:
- 13 / 5.0J PCD 4×98 ET 40 TsO6, 175/70 R13;
- 14 / 5.5J PCD 4×98 ET 37 TsO6, 175/65 R14
- hub diameter - 58.5 mm
It is also possible to equip the “tag” with 185/60 R14 wheels. As a tuning option, we can select models with dimensions 195/50 R15. If we consider tires and wheels for the VAZ 2114 R16, as well as an option with the same diameter for the VAZ 2115, then the possibility of installing 205/45 R16 wheels cannot be ruled out.
When equipping a car, it is necessary to choose wisely not only wheels, but also tires. Properly selected wheel assemblies largely ensure the safety of the vehicle on the road.
Tire pressure VAZ 2107
The nominal tire pressure depends on the type of tire and the load on the vehicle. If the wheels are overinflated or low, the contact patch between the tire and the road changes. This causes deterioration in controllability and an increase in braking distance. In addition, uneven accelerated wear of the tread begins. Over-inflated tires increase wear on the center of the tire, while under-inflated tires increase wear on the edges.
It is recommended to check tire pressure after 500 km, but in practice it is better to do this more often. Small tire punctures, disc and spool defects cause air to escape from individual tires. In this case, the car may drift off course, especially when braking.
The nominal pressure in VAZ 2107 tires depends on the tire size:
- 165/80R13 - 1.6 for front, 1.9 for rear wheels;
- 175/70R13 - 1.7 for front, 2.0 for rear wheels.
In hot weather and when driving, tire pressure increases. With an aggressive driving style, taking sharp turns at high speed, the pressure can increase to 3-4 atmospheres. The tire material is designed for this and can withstand such changes. But if there is a hernia or cut on the tire, it may explode. A front tire explosion is especially dangerous, after which it is very difficult to keep the car on the road.
As pressure decreases, rolling resistance increases, which leads to increased fuel consumption. The tire also bends and the car becomes less responsive when maneuvering.
If the tire pressure is too low, the tires may even fall apart when cornering sharply.
