Analogues of brake pads for Lada Granta

The products of the German company ATE enjoy the greatest popularity and positive reviews among analogues. These front pads under article number 13.0460-2965.2 work well in tandem with the original brake disc in all operating modes.

In second place in popularity and quality are Lucas/TRW products. Front brake pads with article number GDB 1446 have a built-in electronic wear sensor for vehicles in the Luxury configuration. Their price is slightly higher than that of TRW GDB 469 pads, which are also an analogue for replacement. What you need to know about Granta Sport pads

In the Sport modification, all four calipers are disc type. Friction linings are metallic and semi-metallic. Ceramic and organic friction linings are not installed on the Lada model. The difference between the last two types is the presence of ceramic and Kevlar fiber.

There is no need to mention the advantages of organics and ceramics, since everyone knows that they are developed using the most modern technologies and provide maximum braking effect. The exorbitant cost is a significant drawback, which for many becomes a stumbling block.

Rear pads

The rear brakes are presented in drum type. They have a different operating principle: if the front pads compress the disc from the outside, then the rear pads push the drum from the inside. Accordingly, the pads have a completely different design. The manufacturer recommends using original elements.

Most users also prefer original spare parts, as in the case of front brakes, since they work quite well and are inexpensive - about 1000 rubles for a set of four pieces, two for each of the two drums. Original rear pads are sold under number 21920350209055.

If we consider analogues, we can highlight several good options; they are shown in the table below.

Diagnostics of friction lining wear level

Most modern cars are equipped with special digital wear sensors. When the programmed level is reached, an indicator light is activated on the central instrument panel, indicating a breakdown of the brake circuit.

Unfortunately, the Lada is not yet equipped with digital sensors; you need to navigate by the actual thickness of the body of the lining. The maximum permissible threshold for using the body is 1.5 mm. Above the specified limit, the operation of the technical device is not safe. The degree of wear can be determined by removing each wheel and measuring the thickness with a caliper.

Alternative option: turn the steering wheel to the extreme left/right position, visually assess the thickness without resorting to dismantling work. The above recommendation only applies to the front circuit. For rear wheels, unconditional removal of discs.

General issues

Let's figure out when you need to change the pads and what to choose from components.

When to change rear pads

The rear pads on the Grant are changed at the following indicators :

  1. the wheels make noise - rattle - vibrate when braking;
  2. 1.5 mm (or less) left on the pads;
  3. the pads have delaminated, causing the wheels to periodically jam;
  4. stopped holding the handbrake;
  5. You recently changed the front pads, but haven’t touched the rear ones yet.

Selection of components for Grants

We have compiled a table of article numbers for spare parts for replacing brakes. Here it is (can be used to search and order online):

ABS allows you to shorten braking distances and maintain maneuverability when braking.

Typical causes of wear on brake system components

  1. Long-term operation without intermediate prevention;
  2. Mechanical damage to the caliper or steering knuckle, resulting in deformation of the lining;
  3. Deformation, and as a result, creaking of brake pads on Grant;
  4. Purchase and subsequent installation of low quality parts;
  5. Violation of installation technology;
  6. Aggressive driving style of a vehicle;
  7. Insufficient amount of fluid in the expansion tank of the master cylinder;
  8. Damage to the supply line DOT – 4;
  9. Working cylinder jammed.

What brake pads are best for the Lada Granta?

Independent tests of TIIR-299 pads paired with original Autoreal ventilated brake discs show the optimal friction coefficient ratio = 0.49, in contrast to the “green” Ferodo with a friction coefficient of = 0.20 and Allien Nippon pads with a coefficient of = 0.23.

The only not very pleasant nuance with these original pads is the “burning” of the top layer of the lining during heating cycles up to 650 degrees Celsius. Because of this, the effectiveness of “cold” braking is slightly reduced and the load on the brake disc increases, but your brakes will not “leak” during frequent emergency braking from high speeds, which can happen with “softer” analogues of brake pads on the Lada Granta!

TIIR 299 pads

If you do not have the opportunity to buy original non-counterfeit TIIR pads, or you want to purchase the best brake pads for the Lada Granta, then you should pay attention to clutches produced by ATE, Lucas/TRW, Brambo, Finwhale, Valeo, Pilenga.

Many car enthusiasts note that a large number of TRW brake pads and brake discs for AvtoVAZ cars are of Chinese origin, not to mention products from other brands. Therefore, it is better to buy original spare parts or analogues from trusted suppliers, be sure to check the product for counterfeit.

Sequence of actions when replacing pads on Granta yourself

Front

  • We place the car within the perimeter of the repair zone, squeeze the parking brake, and engage first gear. We fix the rear row of wheels with wheel chocks;
  • Jack up the side and remove the wheel;
  • We unscrew the upper and lower guides, move the caliper to the side, do not unscrew the line;
  • Carefully pry up the anti-squeak plates with a screwdriver and remove the pads;
  • We troubleshoot the caliper, clean it, and blow it out if necessary;
  • We install new linings.

After replacing the front pads, check the level in the tank. It is located in the engine compartment. We carry out a similar procedure with the second wheel. Service center technicians recommend replacing the circuits at the same time. For example: front / rear, all four calipers. Subsequent replacement after 30,000 km.

Rear So, to change the rear brake pads on a Grant, do the following:

  • fix the front wheels, do not release the parking brake;
  • jack up the rear side, remove the wheel;
  • tapping the rim evenly with a hammer to knock it off its seat;
  • remove the pressure plate, spacer bar;
  • unpin the base of the fixation, the ear of the handbrake cable;
  • remove the old ones and install new friction linings;
  • The mechanism is pinned in the reverse order.

Be sure to check the fluid level in the expansion tank and replenish the missing amount.

Step-by-step instructions for replacing elements

If the thickness of the pads on the front wheels is close to 2 mm, they must be replaced. The same is true for elements that have become charred, crumbled, exfoliated and lost their properties. The front parts last up to 30 thousand km, the rear parts – 2.5-3 times longer. To carry out the manipulations, you will need a set of keys, a jack, and a flat-tip screwdriver.

Algorithm of actions:

  1. The vehicle is jacked up and secured with supports.
  2. Remove the wheel and turn the steering wheel for easy access to the desired location.
  3. Unscrew the bolt from the bottom of the caliper, not forgetting to bend the locking washer.
  4. The lower guide screw is removed and the caliper is moved upward.
  5. The pads are removed. Before this, press the piston by placing a screwdriver between the disc and the pad.

They control the anthers, disk, guide cylinder. If the condition of one or all elements is critical, it is better to replace them in one set with the block.

Features of original LADA Granta brake pads

The supply of pads to the AvtoVAZ conveyor is carried out by JSC TIIR, Russia’s leading manufacturer of friction products for cars and trucks.

21100-3501800-83

The peculiarity of the markings of brake pads from “TIIR” is that the pads themselves have an internal factory number, and are supplied to the market with “VAZ” numbers. For example, components intended for the retail market under the Lada Sport brand are marked 21100-3501800-83, while the serial number 2108-3501080-05 is stamped on the pads themselves.

It is important to note that since 2012, TIIR JSC began producing front brake pads 1118-3501090 from the TIIR-295 composite material for Grant, Priora and Kalina cars. These pads, as mentioned above, do not have anti-squeak plates; a special mastic is applied to the back of the pads, designed to level out noise and vibration during braking.

Many car enthusiasts note that such “cheapening” of products does not bring the desired result; moreover, with frequent intense braking, the surface of the lining “glazes over”. This leads to an excessive increase in the coefficient of friction in the disc/pad pair and, accordingly, to accelerated wear of the brake disc.

But in 2013, the company improved the technology and began producing front brake pads 2192-3501090-10 from the TIIR-299 composite material with multilayer Nulok anti-squeak plates, for Lada Granta 2192/2194 and their modifications.

Reminder

Let's summarize the key points :

  • Granta with ABS has special pads, an ABS control disc and sensors that must be disconnected before disassembling the brake drum;
  • When the drum does not come off well, you can remove it in another way: screw the pins 7 into the holes next to which they were screwed in (for more details, see the section How to remove a brake drum);
  • Do not press the brake pedal after removing the drum;
  • If you do not pump out excess brake fluid before starting work, it may be squeezed out after replacing the pads.
