What kind of gasoline is better to fill in a VAZ 2114. Manufacturer's recommendations

Many motorists, especially those buying a car for the first time, are faced with a completely logical question - which gasoline is better for the VAZ 2114?

It does not arise by chance, because very often the information received by the car enthusiast contradicts each other. So, the passport of this model clearly states 95 gasoline, but many drivers and even employees of car dealerships and auto repair shops strongly recommend driving 92 gasoline. What to do in this situation?

First, let's turn to the opinion of many experts - when traveling within the city (that is, when driving with frequent stops and at lower speeds), it is better to use 92 gasoline, and when driving on the highway - 95. This recommendation is caused by the peculiarities of engine operation in different modes. For the same reason, it is recommended to refuel 92 in the cold season, and 95 in the warm season.

Pouring gasoline into a VAZ 2114

By following such recommendations, you can be sure of optimal fuel consumption and smoother operation of the car. True, some may object - what to do if there is no desire to change fuel when leaving the city on the highway or vice versa? Shouldn't you pour different fuels into one tank?

Yes, pouring gasoline of different brands into the tank at the same time is highly not recommended. For this reason, many motorists still choose one type of fuel. But which one exactly is up to everyone to decide for themselves.

Gasoline brands

The fact is that significant differences in gasoline brands are a thing of the past - previously, gasoline was produced using special additives that could increase the octane number (the so-called leaded gasoline), and running cars on the “wrong” gasoline could cause them to wear out quickly. Currently, such fuel is prohibited and is not used, so you can refuel a car with both 92 and 95 gasoline.

The real quality of gasoline (sometimes significantly different from gas station to gas station) is much more important than the octane number indicated in its name.

How many liters of gasoline are in the tank of a VAZ 2114

Zheka, 33 years old I drive a Lada 4×4 3D Sochi GELENTVAGEN (before that - Lada 2114 and Lada 2107) Sochi, Russia

Do you know how many liters will be in your tank? I had exactly 9 liters in the tank plus refueling and it came out to exactly 45 liters!

Tank volume and why it changes

According to the technical documentation for the VAZ-2115, this car has a fuel tank with a nominal volume of 43 liters. However, its design feature is a long neck, into which you can pour another 2 to 5 liters. There is a fierce debate among car enthusiasts over how many liters can actually be placed in the tank of a standard “tag”. Many even believe that in cold weather a larger amount of fuel can be placed in the container than on a hot summer day.

In fact, the reason for the change in the holding volume of fuel is the deformation or stretching of the tank. If the surface of this spare car part has many dents, then its capacity will decrease. Over time, some car enthusiasts begin to notice that more gasoline is placed in the tank for refueling the car; this is due to the swelling of the tank.

It is unknown what the displacement will be in the latter case, but in practice, service station specialists have encountered tanks with a capacity of 50 liters (excluding the neck).

Deciding what gasoline to fill the VAZ 2114 with

Many motorists, especially those buying a car for the first time, are faced with a completely logical question - which gasoline is better for the VAZ 2114?

This recommendation is caused by the peculiarities of engine operation in different modes. For the same reason, it is recommended to refuel 92 in the cold season, and 95 in the warm season.

Yes, pouring gasoline of different brands into the tank at the same time is highly not recommended. For this reason, many motorists still choose one type of fuel. But which one exactly is up to everyone to decide for themselves.

Advice from motorists

Often, car owners try to listen to the advice of other drivers, including on the issue of how to refuel a VAZ 2114. True, the advice here is radically different - one half drives a 92 and praises it, the other is in favor of a 95, because that’s what’s written in the passport and this is right".

In such a situation, it is worth recalling the above phrase once again - a difference of 3 octane units is quite insignificant and is poorly perceived by both the car and its driver (in the latter case, most opinions like “better are subjective”). An objective assessment here could be fuel consumption or the degree of wear of some elements, but they are almost the same (of course, there is a difference, but it is very small).

It is for this reason that we can say with confidence that it does not matter what kind of gasoline is poured into the VAZ 2114 - 92nd or 95th, what is much more important is not its octane number, but its quality.

A few octane units is a practically insignificant difference, making 95 and 92 gasoline interchangeable, not only when refueling domestic cars, but also when refueling many foreign cars.

Good gasoline - from a good gas station

It is probably no secret that many gas stations supply motorists with low-quality gasoline - diluted, with a low octane number, or simply lost in quality due to improper storage and transportation (when gasoline is poured into containers that have not been cleaned after other petroleum products). Situations like this are not uncommon these days and are common throughout the country.

Sometimes, even at two neighboring gas stations, the quality of gasoline of the same brand can be radically different. This is what every motorist should pay attention to - having visited several gas stations in your place of residence, and having found the best one, you should use only its services (of course, only if the quality of gasoline at this gas station does not drop sharply).

To once again prove the importance of choosing the right gas station, and not the right brand of fuel, we can give examples of octane number measurements at different gas stations: in less than half of the gas stations studied, 95th gasoline turned out to be really 95th. With 92, the situation is a little better, but not much (in general, according to statistics, the more expensive gasoline is, the more often it is counterfeited/diluted).

That is why it is much more important to choose a reliable fuel supply company and use only its services than to believe the numbers written on any random gas pump.

Summarize

And so, taking into account the above, we can say with complete confidence that it makes no difference what kind of gasoline to fill the VAZ 2114 with - 95 or 92. After all, both in terms of fuel consumption and the effect on the wear of machine parts, both of these brands perform almost identically.

If it is possible to actually fill the car with 95 (and this is proven by measurements, and not by the name of gasoline at the gas station), then it is better to fill it in the summer or when driving outside the city. And 92nd, in turn, should be filled in in winter or during city trips.

About burning gasoline

I would like to explain a little how gasoline of different octane numbers burns; we need this to understand the power and small savings. Yes, I would like to point out right away that it is not the gasoline itself that burns in the engine, but a mixture of gasoline vapor and air. The following is a mixture of a certain octane and air:

  • 76 (80) gasoline - burns quickly and does not last long, I would even say explosively. It flared up quickly and went out quickly.
  • 92nd - ignition is not so explosive, but gradual, that is, the flame spreads much “softer”, and combustion also takes a little longer.
  • 95-98 - it becomes clear that the higher the octane, the softer the spread of flame in gasoline (if I can say so), more evenly or something. YES, this fuel burns longer.

Therefore, performance on high-octane types seems softer and the engine runs quieter. IT DOESN'T APPEAR, in fact it is so.

Is it possible to fill in 92nd gasoline instead of 95th

For example, AvtoVAZ and Renault five years ago sanctioned 92-octane gasoline for the so-called “people’s” models. However, in recent years, both companies have taken a course towards abandoning the AI-92. Thus, AvtoVAZ recommends refueling the restyled Lada Granta with AI-95 fuel (before the update, AI-92 was allowed).

In the same way, the pre-restyling Renault Duster was prescribed fuel no lower than AI-92, while the updated French SUV should be given at least AI-95, which, by the way, is stated in the operating instructions and is written in black and white on the plates under the fuel tank flap. But the manual of modern Hyundai Creta and Kia Rio, as well as a number of “Chinese” models (Haval, Lifan, Dongfeng, Geely, FAW), talks about admission to AI-92.

There is no doubt that it is advisable to refuel cars with the fuel specified in the documentation for the car. This is primarily due to the fact that each company calibrates engines for a specific type of gasoline. If you do not comply with the regulations, you will inevitably encounter harmful detonations of the power unit.

Gasoline with a low octane rating will ignite earlier than intended. This means that an essentially uncontrolled explosion will occur in the cylinders, destroying the mechanics. Moreover, while at city speeds it is quite easy to detect such detonations (under load, a characteristic ringing sound will be heard from under the hood), at high speeds you may not notice detonation, since the noise is masked by the rumble of the power unit.

Also, do not forget that if there are problems with the engine, experts will most likely analyze the fuel in the gas tank and combustion chambers. If it turns out that the fuel does not comply with the regulations, this will be grounds for termination of the automaker’s warranty. Read - you will have to repair the power unit at your own expense.

However, it is not uncommon for you to see the words “not lower than AI-92” or 92, 95 on the fuel tank flap. What fuel should you choose in such a situation? Here it should be taken into account that fuel with a higher octane number is, as a rule, recommended, while fuel with a lower octane number is allowed.

At the same time, you need to understand that the car will drive worse on low-octane gasoline - engine output will decrease, and fuel consumption, on the contrary, will increase. As a result, in most cases you will not achieve the savings you expect. What you underpaid when refueling (a liter of AI-92 fuel today is about 4 rubles lower than a liter of AI-95 gasoline) will be spent one way or another due to the increased consumption of low-octane fuel.

If the manufacturer allows refueling with two types of gasoline at once (AI-92 and AI-95), then by making a choice between AI-95 and AI-92 in favor of the first, you create favorable conditions for the operation of the power unit. Firstly, this way you minimize detonation.

Although modern injection power units have a knock sensor, based on the signal from which electronic brains make ignition later (this reduces detonation) and minimizes the load on the engine, the engine is still doomed to work with increased load. At the same time, when running on the recommended fuel, the engine will operate, by definition, softer, quieter and, no less important, reach the design parameters for acceleration dynamics, efficiency and environmental friendliness (toxicity).

In this case, the consequences will directly depend on your driving style. The negative impact will be minimal if you maintain average speed (of the power unit no higher than 2.5 thousand rpm) and moderate pressure on the gas pedal (read - avoid sudden acceleration and driving at a jagged rhythm).

Otherwise, under heavy loads, the knock sensor will constantly work, and this can lead to unstable operation of the engine - the car will begin to twitch and lose dynamics. In this scenario, the fuel ignites later, burning out already in the exhaust tract. This can lead to engine overheating, premature failure of spark plugs, burnt pistons and catalytic converter failure. Also be prepared for a noticeable increase in gas mileage.

The developers have built into the 21114 engine a potential of within 120 hp. With. without reducing service life. For sports cars, boosting up to 180 hp is possible. pp., but the production of piston and CV gears will increase sharply, and major overhauls will be required more often. To improve engine parameters, the timing structure has been modified:

  • camshaft drive by toothed belt;
  • pin at the end of the camshaft for reading by the timing sensor.

All available attachments are driven by one belt. Another feature is the partial integration of the exhaust manifold with the exhaust system. The resulting catalytic collector includes a catalytic converter and a muffler exhaust pipe.

The polymer receiver has a configuration that differs from the shape on the basic version 2111. In the fuel system, the return line is replaced by an injector ramp, which by default is equipped with either Boshevsky 0280-158-022, or yellow VAZ 20734, Siemens injectors. Instead of the ignition module there is a coil with 4 pins; the ECU uses an M7.9.7 or January version 7.2 controller.

The cooling system is equipped with a new thermostat, and the internal combustion engine includes an 80-amp generator. The repair manual contains a step-by-step description of all operations, for example the procedure for changing the oil. The manufacturer recommends not using turbines when upgrading engines with your own hands.

Engine 21124 (16 valves, 1.6 mt 90 hp)

Starting from 2009, 16-valve engines began to be installed in the “four”. The first variation with a gearbox from Super-Auto was released in 2009. From this moment on, the model received a second life, because more technologically advanced and dynamic engines combined with the lightweight body of the “fourteenth” went well together. At the same time, the fuel consumption on the 124th engine has changed slightly:

  • City mode on the 124 engine “eats” 8.2 liters per hundred kilometers of road. Compared to earlier 8-valve engines, the “gluttony” indicator has decreased by almost two liters of fuel;
  • When driving on the highway, the figure is about 7.2 liters, but according to the plant. In practice, this figure varies from 5.8 to 8;
  • Average mode – 7.6-7.8.

Consumption in the city in winter is close to 11 liters. The average fuel consumption rate on a 124 engine is about 7 liters in fact. Maximum efficiency is achieved at a speed of 100-110 kilometers per hour in 5th gear.

FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS

In any case, the fuel consumption of the VAZ 2114 per 100 km depends on the operating conditions of the vehicle. This indicator also affects the characteristics of the engine. It must be taken into account that the VAZ model was equipped with 4-cylinder engines:

  • Volume 1.5 liters, 8 valves;
  • Volume 1.6 liters, 8 valves;
  • Volume 1.6 liters, 16 valves.

Table of gasoline consumption per 100 km.
(according to data from the VAZ car manufacturer) Therefore, VAZ fuel consumption should differ slightly according to factory conditions in different modes, depending on the engine displacement and the number of valves in the cylinder head.

About power and reducing consumption

Many people write that when they started using 95 (98), fuel consumption dropped, and the car began to pull like crazy! It is not always possible to believe such words, although there is some truth in it. I specifically highlighted this point.

Actually, as you can understand from the previous paragraph, the higher the “octane number”, the “softer” and more evenly the gasoline burns, AND ALSO THE LONGER IT BURNS IN THE ENGINE CYLINDERS. And this means THE PISTON PUSHES LONGER, even if the difference is a percentage, BUT IT REALLY IS. So much for the received power - YOU SHOULD NOT EXPECT THE MOTOR TO “BREAK” FROM PLACE, but a little power will be transferred, usually from 3 to 7% (often before the increase, less than 10% is not felt by the driver). Also, fuel consumption will drop by approximately this percentage, that is, a maximum of 7%, although it all depends on the driver; if you “fry”, not only will the consumption not fall, but on the contrary, it will increase.

The influence of gasoline quality on the engine

By choosing low-quality fuel, the car owner, theoretically, reduces the cost of car maintenance. However, while saving money, you may encounter a number of problems:

  • The appearance of sediment in the tank, clogging the fine filter, clogging fuel lines and fuel injector nozzles. This leads to a decrease in the life of the fuel pump.
  • The presence of a red coating on the spark plugs of the ignition system, which reduces their efficiency.
  • Sequential failure of oxygen sensors.
  • The catalytic converter burns out, which reduces the vehicle's power.

The risk of failure of the internal combustion engine increases. Along with the internal combustion engine, you will have to repair the fuel pump and adjust the fuel equipment. You can tell that a car is filled with low-quality gasoline by a noticeable decrease in power, a weak response to pressing the accelerator pedal, and a lack of dynamics during acceleration. The noise from a running engine increases, and extraneous sounds such as knocking and clanging appear. It turns out that trying to save money on refueling increases the risk of premature vehicle failure and the frequency of calls to a car service center. If the deterioration of engine performance increases the consumption of low-quality fuel, there will be no savings even on gasoline.

Reasons for high consumption

The VAZ 2114 is economical, but it happens that the car’s appetite increases sharply. The reasons for high fuel consumption lie in possible malfunctions:

  1. Failure of the lambda probe is usually due to low-quality gasoline or poor valve adjustment.
  2. A faulty speed sensor leads to a drop in traction, floating idle speed, and poor performance of the speedometer.
  3. Phase distribution sensor adjustment failure.
  4. Clogged injectors can be felt during dynamic acceleration.
  5. Problems with the fuel pump.

Other reasons for excessive consumption of gasoline include an aggressive driving style with frequent acceleration and braking at speeds above 120 km/h.

It is necessary to undergo regular maintenance, measure engine compression, and change spark plugs in a timely manner.

Low tire pressure and untimely replacement of tires for winter and summer lead to increased fuel consumption. Particular attention is paid to the quality of gasoline, since this not only increases consumption, but also leads to engine wear, clogging of the fuel supply system and expensive repairs.

What kind of gasoline should I fill in, 92 or 95?

Octave number refers to how well a fuel can resist burning too quickly, which can even lead to an explosion. However, you should not think that if A-98 fuel has the highest octave number today, then this is what needs to be poured into the tank.

If you cannot decide what kind of gasoline to fill into the gas tank of your car - 92 or 95, first of all you need to pay attention to what recommendations are given by the manufacturer of your particular car. If it is recommended to fill in, for example, 91st gasoline, it would be best if you fill it with that particular gasoline, since in this case your car is not optimized for fuel with a higher octave number.

The main advantage of the improved version of 95 gasoline is that gasoline has cleaning properties. It is rumored that this property accelerates engine wear, but such rumors should not be believed, because gasoline contains a very small percentage of cleaning substances that dissolve deposits.

An additive in our time is any substance added to fuel to improve its characteristics. 92 gasoline, according to rumors, is the cleanest gasoline in our country, since 98 and 95 contain a lot of harmful additives that artificially increase the octane number.

You can verify this by checking 98 and 95 gasoline in a special laboratory. The additives on the market today have different properties, but it often happens that these properties have significant differences with the declared ones.

Additives not only increase the octane number, but also reduce fuel costs, lower the level of detonation and make the car engine more powerful.

Let us remind you that in the previous article we talked about when it is time to change the tires on your car. This material will be useful to know for young motorists who most often drive in winter on summer tires.

If your engine is high-tech or highly boosted, it is best not to use 92 gasoline - 98 is best suited for such engines. Most foreign cars brought to our country are officially adapted to use 92 gasoline.

The car's engine can be seriously damaged if 95 or 98 gasoline is used unreasonably. If you want your engine to serve you as long as possible, it is best if the octane number of the fuel matches the manufacturer's recommendations.

If the engine is too worn out, it is highly not recommended to fill it with gasoline, which has cleaning properties.

What happens in the gas tank

It is for this reason that car enthusiasts like to fill their gas tank with equal amounts of both types of fuel, because they believe that they have managed to combine a low price, good engine response, and all this on relatively pure gasoline. However, different grades mean not only different octane numbers, but also different fuel densities. Knowledge of the simplest laws of physics tells us that the denser and heavier 92- will sit at the bottom of the fuel tank. At the same time, the lighter 95 will tend to move up. Hence the conclusion:

Both fuels will be consumed alternately, with little actual mixing occurring.

If this is so, then it is unlikely that it will be possible to achieve a particularly significant improvement in the characteristics of the power unit. On the other hand, we can talk about small savings, which are unlikely to exceed a few percent. But for particularly scrupulous drivers, this may be important, because instead of pure 95, we partially fill it with fuel with a lower octane number.

Replacement frequency

The oil change in the VAZ 2114 engine can be performed every 15 thousand km, according to the documentation. But there is one caveat. There you can also find information that during heavy use this period should be reduced to 7.5 thousand km. If you look at the characteristics of heavy driving, you will see that this also includes driving on dusty surfaces, idling, and driving speeds above 170 km/h. These are standard driving conditions for most car owners, so it is better not to delay changing the engine oil and definitely not to exceed 15 thousand km.

You should fill in the gasoline that the manufacturer prescribes; usually such information is indicated on the gas tank flap, and always in the maintenance and operation book.

As for the VAZ 2114, the most important thing is that the gasoline is of high quality, and it doesn’t matter whether it has an octane rating of 92 or 95.

For example, new Volkswagens, Hondas, and Skodas use 92, although the factory recommends using AI-95-98.

“What are our girls made of?”

> In nature, we still don’t make 95 gasoline! - “nature” has been producing oil :)) and gas for millions of years. I haven’t heard about gasoline or kerosene deposits yet! :))))

And if we take into account the fact that gasoline 95 is made from 92 by adding anti-depletion additives, and 92 from 80, and 80 from diesel fuel - and I thought that gasoline and diesel fuel are different fractions :) What are they made from fuel oil? If it’s a solarium, then you patent the method - you’ll become richer than Chubais, otherwise the industry of the tormentor doesn’t know what to do with heavy fractions :))))
