How to Drain Antifreeze VAZ 2112 16 Valves
How to combine antifreeze with VAZ-2110:
Tosol instructions. coolant (OLC) used in automobile internal combustion engines. Due to its resistance to low temperatures, excellent heat transfer properties and low cost, it is very popular among car owners. But, like any other technical fluid, this refrigerant undergoes periodic replacement. We will also talk about this, when it needs to be done, in this article. We will also consider how to combine antifreeze with a VAZ-2110 using the example of eight- and sixteen-valve “tens” engines.
When and why do you need to change the refrigerant?
According to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations, the engine coolant should be replaced every 75,000 kilometers or 3 years of operation, regardless of how old the vehicle is. In addition, the coolant should be replaced when the car owner discovers that it has lost its properties, changed its color or consistency.
If this is not done, the engine is at risk of overheating. In addition, low-quality coolant causes scale to settle in the cooling jacket channels, mainly in the radiators and radiators.
Antifreeze
So:
- Antifreeze is produced using traditional technologies, which are already noticeably outdated.
- Such technologies allow the formation of a protective layer on the walls of cooling jackets up to 0.5 mm thick during operation. And considering the thickness of the shirts themselves, this is not so little!
- This very layer has low thermal conductivity, and therefore heat transfer. It turns out that the cooling system has to work longer at elevated temperatures.
- This leads to increased wear of unit parts, as well as increased gasoline consumption. Sediment can also cause the thermostat to jam.
- The advantage of antifreeze over other antifreezes is its price! It's much smaller!
- On the other hand, antifreeze is quite common in our area. It is widely used at technical stations. service by many masters.
- Taking into account the wear of engine parts and other possible breakdowns, we can say that antifreeze fully justifies itself as a coolant.
- Usually replaced after 30-40 thousand kilometers or 1 year of use of the car.
Which antifreeze to choose
You need to buy antifreeze only in specialized stores and give priority to those manufacturers whose reputation is beyond doubt. As for the choice, it is better to use the type and brand of coolant, which, again, is recommended by the car manufacturer.
Let's take, for example, Russian-made antifreeze A-40M or A-65M. These two fluids are ideal for any “dozens” of engines. The letters of the refrigerant marking have the following designation: A. car, M. modernized.
The numbers are the freezing temperature of antifreeze. There is also a concentrate for sale. It is designated “Antifreeze AM”. All of the listed liquids, which is important, are produced in accordance with GOST 28084-89
Is there a difference in the antifreeze discharge processes in eight- and sixteen-valve engines
There is a difference, and that's important. The fact is that the “tens” engines have different designs. As for draining antifreeze, the VAZ-2110 8 valves are more profitable than a dozen with sixteen valves. The first refrigerant drain plug is located on the front of the cylinder block. To get to it, you don't have to drive the car into a hole or remove the guard. But on sixteen-valve power plants, the plug is located at the bottom and can even be closed by the starter, therefore, before draining the antifreeze from the VAZ-2110, you will need to take the car into a pit (overpass), remove both the protection and the starter. Let's take a closer look at this process for each of the engines.

Before removing antifreeze from the VAZ-2110, you must position the car so that its rear is slightly raised. To do this, you can park the car down a hill or turn the rear wheels onto a curb. This will allow the refrigerant to flow faster.
It is also recommended to remove the negative terminal from the battery, especially if you are dealing with an injector motor. Then we follow this algorithm:
- Unscrew the cap of the expansion tank.
- Below the drain hole we replace the funnel and remove the hose through the engine guard at any convenient location where you can put the coolant collection container.
- Key 10: Carefully unscrew the drain plug and wait until the refrigerant dries.
- After this we replace the additional capacity of the radiator cap.
- Unscrew the plug and drain the remaining refrigerant.
- Once all the fluids are drained, we tighten the plugs and we can start pouring in new antifreeze.
Characteristics of liquids
So let's start with the definition. What is antifreeze? This is a coolant developed by Soviet scientists in the 70s. It was this that was used for the first Zhiguli cars. Subsequently, the coolant began to be used on the VAZ-2110. The car rarely needed to replace antifreeze - only once every two years. But antifreeze has an even longer lifespan. Although the composition of both liquids is the same. They are based on ethylene glycol. Moreover, the coolant is not initially painted in any color. Subsequently, the manufacturer adds the appropriate additives:
- Anti-foam. To prevent air from forming in the system and reducing heat dissipation.
- Anti-corrosion. Over time, system components may rust. Dirt particles clog small channels and prevent normal fluid circulation. These additives are also called corrosion inhibitors.
The liquid also has an anti-scale additive.
When ordinary water boils, it forms a characteristic white coating on the walls. This significantly impairs heat dissipation. As a result, the machine heats up even with the fans on. If the coolant boils, it does so at a temperature of at least 105 degrees Celsius and does not emit deposits.
How to combine antifreeze with a VAZ-2110 injector (16 valves)
Tools and Tools Required:
- keys 10 and 13;
- capacity 8-10 liters (canister or bucket);
- dry cloth.
For merging antifreeze VAZ-2110 (16 valves
) must be brought into a pit or overpass. Further work is performed in the following order:
- Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
- We turn the plug on the expansion tank.
- We sit in the hole, disable the bolts that protect the engine using a 10-key wrench. We are removing the protection.
- We unscrew the drain plug on the radiator, replacing the container with it. Wait until all the antifreeze in the heat exchanger flows.
- If your car is driven by a cable, you will have to remove the starter before you drain the antifreeze from the VAZ-2110. The drain plug is located directly below it. To do this, disconnect the relay relay connector connector, remove the protective cap from the positive wire mounting nut, unscrew it, remove the wire, and then remove the three starter mounting bolts. After this, replace the container with the plug, turn it and let the coolant flow through. If the transmission is traction controlled, the starter should not be removed.
Sensor malfunctions
As you know, the ratio of fuel and air in the combustible mixture depends on the readings of the device. All owners have already encountered or will continue to encounter various problems that the temperature sensor creates. It also determines whether the fan will start when overheated or not.
You can suspect a malfunction of the coolant sensor on a VAZ-2110 based on the following symptoms. So, the first signs are problems starting the engine on a cold frosty morning. You may also experience poor exhaust and fuel consumption will be significantly increased.
These symptoms do not necessarily indicate that the sensor needs to be replaced. Sometimes it is enough to clean the contacts and clean the sensor itself from corrosion. If a visual inspection fails to identify problems, then you need to check the element.
Everything merged
Removing refrigerant from the system is quite problematic, because it is a whole complex of channels, pipes and hoses. In general, with a normal routine replacement this is not necessary, but if you are, for example, going to replace antifreeze with antifreeze or vice versa, or flush the cooling system, you will have to try to force the fluid out of the engine as much as possible. But how to completely drain antifreeze? The VAZ-2110 is not such a complicated car for this. This can be done using a regular car compressor or, as a last resort, a pump.
Let's take a compressor, we will connect its hose through some kind of homemade adapter to one of the “nipples” on the expansion tank, after removing the hose from it and “drowning” it, we will begin to pump air into the system. Almost all the liquid remaining in the hoses, engine cooling jacket, and radiator tanks exits through the drain holes.
Helpful advice
When replacing antifreeze on a VAZ-2110 car, it is worth inspecting the condition of the pipes and hoses that go to the radiator and expansion tank. Characteristic signs of wear are:
- Cracks.
- Cuts.
- Low elasticity.
If the pipe is cracked and hard to the touch, then it needs to be replaced. The clamps are also changed. They can be bought at any hardware store. The hoses themselves that go to the tank must be reinforced, as in the photo below.
Conventional rubber products quickly become unusable or fray. If there are cracks on the tank itself, we also replace it with a new one. It would be a good idea to check the thermostat as well.
If it is stuck in one position, it should be replaced. You can check this by boiling the element in a saucepan on the stove. Why does this work need to be done when replacing the coolant?
Because during any operation related to the cooling system, you will have to drain the antifreeze again. And this is an additional waste of time and effort.
It is also necessary to fill out correctly
Now that you know how to combine antifreeze with a VAZ-2110, you can talk about how to properly fill with fresh coolant. This process is much simpler than the previous one, but there are some nuances.
The main task facing a car owner who is pouring refrigerant into the system is to prevent air bubbles from appearing in it. No, they are not dangerous for the engine, but they are extremely undesirable, especially in winter, when the “furnace” operation is required. Plugs create obstacles to the normal circulation of refrigerant and, in addition, reduce its volume in the system. It turns out that we poured 6-7 liters, but the “oven” does not heat up, since it needs to warm up. And the troubleshooting begins.
But you just need to disconnect the hose from the throttle body when you fill the antifreeze and pour it until the coolant drains out of it. After this, we place the hose in the union and continue to fill the liquid to the level. When this is achieved, without closing the expansion tank cap, we start the engine, wait until it warms up to operating temperature and “pump” the hoses that enter the cooling radiator, periodically squeezing them with your hands. Air, if it exists, will definitely come out. You will only need to replenish the liquid.
If you buy a car, put it in a cupboard and admire it, then you definitely won’t need to replace any working fluids. And since a normal car is constantly in use, it requires maintenance. One of the types of work that needs to be done is replacing antifreeze or antifreeze - in a word, coolant.
This article provides instructions on how to replace antifreeze in a VAZ 2112 yourself. Here you will find some features that are important to pay attention to when replacing the coolant, a video on the replacement and a detailed description of the process itself.
How to change coolant
Before replacing antifreeze, you need to know that this can only be done on a cooled engine. Antifreeze and antifreeze are aggressive chemicals that can cause harm to the human body, therefore, follow safety precautions and carry out all work with gloves. You can start the car after changing the fluid only after you make sure that the reservoir cap is tightly screwed on.
Drain the coolant
Many drivers are interested in how to drain antifreeze from a VAZ 2110 and do it quickly and correctly.
Before you start changing the antifreeze, you need to place the machine on a horizontal platform. And if this is not possible, then make sure that the back is slightly lower than the front.
- Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.
- Together with the bracket, remove the ignition module.
Ignition module - We unscrew the cap of the expansion tank, having previously installed a 10 liter capacity to drain the used coolant.
Draining old fluid - Drain the cooler.
- We wipe the cylinder block from any remaining fluid.
- We tighten the plugs of the radiator and cylinder block.
Filling with coolant
- Before disconnecting the coolant supply hose, loosen the clamp.
- If the engine is equipped with a carburetor, then you need to disconnect the hose from the fitting so that air can escape during filling.
- We begin to pour antifreeze into the system (about 7-8 liters will be needed) until its volume reaches the level of the upper line of the expansion tank fastening belt.
We pour new antifreeze through the funnel - Be sure to tighten the plug tightly, otherwise if the coolant boils, it may splash out.
- We connect the hose.
- We put the ignition system in place.
- Connect the “-” terminal to the battery.
- We start the engine and wait for it to warm up to operating temperature.
Liquid level in the tank - We look at the position of the sensor pointer and the level in the tank;
- After a few days, it is advisable to check and determine whether the coolant level in the expansion tank is normal.
Why change antifreeze and how often to do it?
Let's start by answering the first question - do you need to change antifreeze and why change it? The answer is clear - it needs to be changed, since it, like everything else, has the excellent ability to lose its properties.
Plus, the loss of the quality of the liquid occurs not only from the expiration date, but also from the fact that it is in an engine that is subject to corrosion - that is, the antifreeze becomes brown or red. How often is it necessary to replace antifreeze on a VAZ 2112? According to official data, this must be done every 2 years or every 45 thousand km. Some advise changing every year. This is often not necessary. If the car is old and “leaks” every winter, then this can be done. But the VAZ 2112 is not a rare car, so once every two years will be enough. How else can you determine that antifreeze needs to be changed? This can be done by color. Looking into the expansion tank, see what color the antifreeze has become. Pure antifreeze has a bright blue color. Black and red color is a clear indicator of the need for replacement.
Antifreeze
So:
- Antifreezes are usually considered a better coolant option than domestic antifreeze.
- Different colors of antifreeze indicate its different composition, the presence of additional additives and, accordingly, different temperature conditions in which its operation is allowed.
- The best efficiency is about antifreeze. They do not form a protective layer along the entire wall of the shirt. The protective film is formed only in places of metal corrosion and reaches a thickness 100 times less than the antifreeze film.
- Various additives can increase the service life of antifreeze up to 250 thousand kilometers, and standard antifreeze with a minimum of additives or without them can last up to 100 thousand kilometers.
Based on the above information, we draw conclusions. Replacing antifreeze on a VAZ 2112 requires high-quality fluid. Antifreeze is better than antifreeze. Remember! It is recommended to use the brand of antifreeze recommended by the manufacturers.
Antifreeze or antifreeze?
The answer to this question is not clear-cut. If you do not take into account the car manufacturer, but look solely at the quality of the coolant, then antifreeze, of course, loses to antifreeze.
Antifreeze has many additives that can make it very suitable for winter. Freezing and boiling temperatures can make a huge difference. Another point is that antifreeze is specially designed for VAZ cars. It is suitable for our climate and operating conditions. Another plus is that the price of antifreeze is much lower than that of antifreeze. Usually, owners of VAZ cars pour antifreeze and drive with a clear conscience.
Basic properties of antifreeze
Among experienced car owners, there is a constant debate about which is better to choose - antifreeze or antifreeze. If you delve a little into the topic, it turns out that antifreeze is the same antifreeze that was developed back in Soviet times. In practice, this substance is noticeably superior to all coolants existing today in a number of characteristics. There is no point in comparing it with water. However, some drivers have not yet figured out what the differences are until today.
The main advantages of antifreeze:
- When heated, liquid does not expand as much as water. With a slight fluid gap, there will be enough room for expansion. Accordingly, there will be no rupture of the system in the form of the lid and pipes falling off.
- Compared to ordinary water, coolant boils at a higher temperature.
- Antifreeze does not freeze at sub-zero temperatures. Severe frosts do not lead to ice formation. The liquid takes on a gel-like appearance, i.e. it hardens slightly.
- Doesn't foam.
- Does not contribute to the formation of corrosion and works to protect the engine from such troubles.
Replacing antifreeze
Now let's move on directly to replacing the antifreeze with our own hands.
Advice! Before replacing antifreeze, remove the protection from the engine. Firstly, the liquid will drain more easily. Secondly, it will be easier for you to “catch” the stream with a basin.
Before draining the antifreeze, unscrew the negative terminal of the battery. This is done to prevent the wires from shorting, because liquid will get on them.
Draining antifreeze
Drain the coolant. The fluid is drained only from a cold engine. So:
- First you will need to use a 13 and 17 key to unscrew the ignition module with the bracket. You can, of course, try and unscrew the drain plug from the block without removing the bracket, but more effort and nerves will be spent.
- Now we unscrew the drain plug of the VAZ 2112 cylinder block. This is done using a 13mm socket and a ratchet or other convenient wrench.
- After this, very little liquid will drain. Now unscrew the expansion tank cap to drain all the fluid from the block. You can do this in advance.
- Next, you need to unscrew the drain plug from the cooling radiator. You don't need any tools for this - it can be easily unscrewed by hand.
- After all the liquid has drained from the block and radiator, you need to screw back the two plugs.
- Reinstall the ignition module with bracket.
This is where the drain ended.
Flushing the cooling system
Often, replacing antifreeze on a VAZ 2112 can be done without flushing the system. You don’t have to do it, in principle, but consider the option of washing.
Note. To flush the engine cooling system, you can use a special flushing liquid, or you can use ordinary distilled water.
- To flush the engine, pour the required amount of distilled water or a specially prepared flushing solution with water into the engine.
- After this, start the engine and give it time to run. About 10 minutes.
- Then drain the water and repeat the procedure.
- You can rinse until the water becomes clear when drained. But considering that often washing is not done at all, two times will be enough.
Pouring antifreeze
After draining the antifreeze and flushing the cooling system, it is necessary to fill in new antifreeze. It will require about 8 liters.
- We insert a watering can into the hole in the expansion tank for convenience.
- We fill the antifreeze gradually so that the air leaves the system.
- To completely fill the system, squeeze the upper pipe coming out of the radiator.
- After filling the system, pour about half into the expansion tank.
Advice! Under no circumstances fill the expansion tank full! Antifreeze will simply pour out of there!
Eliminating airiness
If you do not perform some operations, the cooling system of your VAZ 2112 will be air-filled and will not work correctly. To eliminate this defect, do the following:
- Again, during pouring, squeeze the pipe so that air comes out.
- After filling, it is necessary to create pressure in the expansion tank. In simple terms, just blow into the expansion tank. Not just of course, but pressed against it so that air does not escape through the filler neck.
- In this primitive way, pressure can be created and air will leave the system.
- A sign that there is no air left in the system is the release of antifreeze, not air, from the return line.
- Also, after starting the engine, you need to “give” the engine good speed - this also helps.
Necessary tool
What tool is needed to replace antifreeze in your VAZ 2112:
- Head 13 with ratchet or wrench
- Head or wrench 17
- Key for 10
- Container for draining antifreeze
- Watering can
Any basin that will fit under the car will do.
That's probably all you need. As you can see, no special costs are required.
Engine starting
After all the operations performed, close the expansion tank cap, install the protection on the engine, put the negative terminal back on and start the engine. As the engine warms up, antifreeze should come out of the return line - this is a sign that the antifreeze was replaced correctly. The engine must be warmed up until the radiator cooling fan turns on. After turning on the fan, place your hand against the heater radiator, next to the fan. The radiator will be warm if everything is done correctly.
If the radiator is cold, there may be two reasons for this - not all the air has left the system or a faulty thermostat. Also a good sign will be hot air from the heater in the cabin. Another point - while warming up the engine, check the tightness of the entire cooling system. If leaks are detected, the pipes will need to be replaced.
The replacement of antifreeze in the VAZ 2112 has been completed. Bottom line - after you have checked everything and found no bad signs, you can safely close the hood and hit the road. Bon Voyage!
How much antifreeze is needed in a VAZ-2110
The cooling system of the VAZ-2110 requires 7-8 liters of antifreeze. This volume is necessary to ensure the normal operation of all engine components, heating system, and so on. Accordingly, this is exactly the volume that needs to be poured into the expansion tank of the machine.
You may think that 5-6 liters will be enough. However, take into account the fact that the liquid does not fill the system immediately.
After replacing the antifreeze, you need to start the car and let the engine run for a while (before the cooling fan comes on).
Reasons for replacement
When replacing antifreeze on a VAZ 2110, you must adhere to several rules. The engine must be cold, antifreeze is a toxic liquid; when working with it, it is necessary to avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and prolonged contact with the skin.
Antifreeze, coolant (antifreeze) is a special composition of automotive fluid based on ethylene glycol. Used in the cooling system of an internal combustion engine (ICE) for operation at low ambient temperatures. There may be several reasons for replacing antifreeze:
- car mileage, 75,000 - 100,000 km. mileage;
- time interval 3 - 5 years (it is recommended to check the condition of the fluid at a car service every year before the start of the winter season with a special device);
- replacing one of the components of the cooling system, water pump, pipes, radiator, heater, etc., with such replacements, antifreeze is still drained from the cooling system and it makes sense to fill in a new one.
REPLACEMENT WITH WASHING
Is it possible to replace antifreeze with antifreeze? Why not. It is only necessary to flush the cooling system when replacing antifreeze with antifreeze. Conversely, you need to flush the cooling system when replacing antifreeze with antifreeze. We have already indicated the reason for flushing - the compositions are different and mixing can lead to foaming of the coolant. Of course, an explosion will not occur, but long-term use of the mixed composition is not recommended. The system should be flushed with clean water, and the water should be changed several times. Rinse until clear liquid, free of dirty impurities, drains from the radiator.
Replacing the coolant on a VAZ is done with your own hands in stages:
- We park the car level; at an angle, all the coolant may not drain out;
- Remove the expansion tank plug;
- Unscrew the drain plug at the bottom of the radiator. We prepare the container into which the contents from the radiator are drained in advance;
- We twist the plug on the cylinder block and drain the coolant from the block. To get to the plug, you need to remove the ignition module. The module is secured with three bolts;
- We tighten the plugs, fill in water and start the engine. Let the engine run for fifteen minutes;
- As already written above, we flush the system several times;
- Then fill in new fluid and remove the airlock. How many liters of antifreeze are provided in the VAZ 2114, so many should enter the system.
Operating procedure
Draining old coolant
If the replacement is made on a lift or inspection pit, it is necessary to remove the engine protection, if any. When replacing without a pit, you don’t have to remove the protection, but then old antifreeze will get on the protection. There is nothing dangerous about this, but for a few days after the replacement, you may smell antifreeze until it evaporates. We place a drain container under the lower right side of the radiator, if conditions permit.
If you are not changing it in an equipped place and you do not need the old antifreeze, you can simply dump it on the ground. Many people advise initially opening the cap of the expansion tank, then unscrewing the plug at the bottom of the radiator to drain, but in this case old antifreeze under high pressure, especially if the engine has not completely cooled down, will flow out of the radiator. It is safer and more convenient to first unscrew the cap (plastic wing) of the radiator, the old antifreeze will flow in a thin stream, then carefully unscrew the cap of the expansion tank, thereby, due to the tightness in the cooling system, you will be able to regulate the antifreeze drain pressure.
After draining the antifreeze from the radiator, we need to drain the liquid from the engine cylinder block. The peculiarity of draining antifreeze on a VAZ 2110 from the cylinder block is that the plug on the block is closed by the ignition coil (on a 16-valve injection engine). To do this, we need to dismantle it, use a 17mm wrench to unscrew the bottom bolt of the coil bracket, use a 13mm wrench to unscrew the side and central bolts securing the bracket and move the coil to the side. Using a 13 key, unscrew the drain plug from the cylinder block. To more completely remove old antifreeze, you can connect an air compressor and apply air pressure through the filler neck of the expansion tank.
We tighten the plug of the cylinder block and the plug on the radiator (the plug on the radiator is plastic with a rubber gasket, it can be tightened by hand without unnecessary force; for reliability, you can coat the threads of the plug with sealant). We put back the ignition coil.
Filling with new coolant
Before adding new antifreeze to the VAZ 2110, it is necessary to disconnect the heating hose to the throttle valve (for an injection engine), or the hose from the carburetor heating fitting (on a carburetor engine), so that excess air can escape from the cooling system. Fill in new antifreeze to the level of the upper part of the fastening of the rubber belt of the expansion tank. We connect the hoses to the throttle valve or carburetor, depending on the model. Close the expansion tank cap tightly. Open the heater tap in the cabin to the hot position.
We start the engine. Immediately after starting the engine on a VAZ 2110, you need to pay attention to the level of antifreeze in the expansion tank; it may immediately drop, this may mean that the water pump has pumped coolant into the system. We turn off the engine, top up the level and start again. We warm up the car. During warm-up, we check for leaks in the engine compartment, in places where hoses and plugs were removed. We monitor the engine temperature.
When the operating temperature reaches 90 degrees, turn on the heater; if it heats with warm air, turn it off and wait for the engine cooling fan to turn on. When you turn on the fan, wait for it to turn off, turn off the engine, wait 10 minutes for the engine to cool down a little, unscrew the cap of the expansion tank, check the coolant level, and add if necessary.
Work quality control
After completing all the steps to replace the antifreeze, you can put back the terminal and plug of the expansion tank, and you can start the engine. Observe the behavior of the cooling system - whether there are any leaks in the pipes or connections. Does the thermostat open on time? A sure sign of proper replacement of antifreeze is the release of coolant from the return flow when the engine heats up. Place your hand on the heater radiator - if it is warm, then everything is done correctly. Keep an eye on the condition of your car, because it could even cost you your life! Share: No comments
During operation, the engine generates a huge amount of heat. In this regard, the design of the car includes a cooling system. It also provides interior heating in winter.
Owners often forget about its maintenance. This fluid is a consumable item and requires replacement periodically.
Recently, the issue of using imported products on Russian cars has been discussed very often (for example, replacing antifreeze with antifreeze in a VAZ-2110). Some say it is harmful. Others say that nothing better than antifreeze has yet been invented and antifreeze is a thing of the past.
Is it so? Let's try to figure it out.
Replacement features
If there are small leaks in the engine cooling system and the car owner periodically adds water or antifreeze from different manufacturers, the old coolant may take on a rusty color. Foreign bodies may appear in the form of small chips and rust, which, by the way, can lead to failure of the main elements of the cooling system, water pump, thermostat, heater tap, etc.
In this regard, when replacing old antifreeze in this condition, it is necessary to flush the system. This can be done using different additives, which is not always beneficial for the cooling system. Low-quality cleaning additives may not only not help, but also damage the components of the cooling system. Therefore, it is necessary to use high-quality additives and not skimp.
You can also flush the system naturally with distilled water. After draining the old antifreeze, water is added. The car idles for 10-15 minutes, then it is drained again and new antifreeze is added. If there is severe rust, you can repeat the procedure.
There is a cheaper and easier way; you can simply flush the system with plain water by opening the radiator and engine caps in sequence. Those. the engine cap is unscrewed and water is spilled through the expansion tank. Then the engine plug is closed and the radiator drain plug is opened. Do only in this sequence, since the radiator is at the lowest point and all the water will pour out.
Nuances of antifreeze
There are many opinions as to whether antifreeze is actually better than antifreeze. We will not prove our position, but rather we will tell you a few facts.
Why is it better to use antifreeze when replacing coolant in a VAZ 2110? The choice is always up to the car owner, but this particular coolant has a wide range of advantages:
- When heated, the degree of expansion of antifreeze is less than that of water. Therefore, the presence of even a small gap for expansion will allow it to protect the system from rupture and maintain the integrity of the pipes and caps of the expansion tank;
- The boiling point is higher than that of water;
- At sub-zero temperatures, the coolant does not turn into ice and acquires a gel-like structure, which does not lead to rupture of the cooling system (CO);
- Does not form foam;
- Does not cause corrosion. Moreover, it has the function of preventing its occurrence.
Filling with new coolant
It is necessary to screw back the drain plugs and fill in new coolant. It is better to fill in antifreeze, because... It has a longer service life and is better for the engine.
So, let's look at how many liters of coolant will be required. You need to fill the coolant up to the top mark on the expansion tank, this is about 7.5 liters of liquid.
Next, we start the engine and let it run at high speeds until the fan on the radiator turns on, thus getting rid of air in the system. If the level has decreased, add coolant. The normal fluid level should be midway between the maximum and minimum marks on the expansion tank.
Antifreeze on VAZ 2112 vehicles must be replaced every 45,000 km. If the car owner drives a little, you need to focus on the time interval - once every two years. In addition, you should pay attention to the condition of the antifreeze and, if a black-red tint appears, replace it immediately.
What antifreeze is better to pour into a VAZ 2112
Before draining the antifreeze from the system, decide on the brand of new coolant. The best solution is to follow the manufacturer's recommendations, but due to limited options, you can rely on other products. When choosing a suitable coolant, consider the year of manufacture of the VAZ 2112:
- 1998-2002. For VAZ 2112 of these years, the best option is G12 antifreeze, which can be recognized by its red color. Popular products - MOTUL Ultra, Castrol SF, Lukoil Ultra, G-Energy.
- 2003-2009. In cars from the latest batch, it is worth pouring red coolant class G12+. The choice here is quite wide, so problems with the purchase are unlikely to arise. Alternatively, you can choose G-Energy, MOTUL Ultra, Havoline, Lukoil Ultra, Frostschutzmittel A.
Replacement process
Once the appropriate coolant has been selected, proceed to replacing the antifreeze. To get the job done, you will need a certain set of tools, namely a “ten” wrench, “thirteen” and “seventeen” heads (in the first case, with a wrench or ratchet), a container for draining the old coolant, a watering can and rags.
Before starting work, complete a number of preparatory activities. Discard the negative from the battery and remove the protection from the engine. The last work is extremely important, because this way you will gain access to the drain plug, and the escaping coolant will not spill.
Before draining the antifreeze, wait until the VAZ 2112 cools down. Then proceed as follows:
- Using keys “thirteen” and “seventeen”, unscrew the ignition module. Remove the assembly along with the bracket. If you drain antifreeze without dismantling the module, a lot of coolant will be spilled.
- Unscrew the coolant drain plug in the cylinder block. Use a thirteen socket for this, as well as a wrench or ratchet.
- Wait until the antifreeze comes out of the system (there won't be much of it). Unscrew the tank cap, after which the working fluid will flow more actively. Place the container first to prevent antifreeze from splashing.
- Unscrew the plug at the bottom of the radiator. You don't need a tool to do this job - just do it by hand.
- Wait until the coolant drains from the radiator and return both plugs to their place.
- Put the ignition module and bracket in place.
How to flush the cooling system
Above we looked at how to drain antifreeze. The next step for the VAZ 2112 is flushing the system if the coolant being drained is too dirty. For rinsing, use distillate or a special rinsing liquid.
- Pour a small volume of distilled water or a special solution into the cooling system.
- Start the engine and leave it for a while (8-10 minutes is enough).
- Drain the water and run another cycle.
Flushing the cooling system of the VAZ 2112 can be carried out until the emerging composition is completely transparent.
Filling with new antifreeze
The next stage of replacing antifreeze is filling the system purchased in advance with coolant. Take the following steps:
- Insert a watering can into the filler neck of the tank (this is more convenient).
- Fill with antifreeze. Work gradually so that excess air has time to escape from the system.
- Click on the upper pipe that comes out of the radiator.
- Pour coolant into the expansion tank, about 50%.
You should not fill the expansion tank full, because in this case, the antifreeze will simply pour out through the top.
How to remove air from the system
It is worth considering that after replacing the antifreeze, the cooling system of the VAZ 2112 may become airy. To resolve the issue, do the following:
- While filling the coolant, squeeze the pipe to allow air to escape.
- After finishing the work, create pressure in the expansion tank. In simple words, blow into it (you need to press tightly against the exit).
- Do a few blows.
This method seems primitive, but with its help you can create additional pressure and expel excess air. You can draw a conclusion about the success of the event by the antifreeze coming out of the return line. To consolidate the result, after starting the VAZ 2112 engine, give it good speed.
As soon as all manipulations for replacing antifreeze are completed, return the plug from the expansion tank, install protection on the motor and return the negative terminal to the battery.
Now start the engine. If everything is done correctly, as the engine temperature rises, antifreeze will come out of the return. Warm up the engine and wait until the fan on the cooling radiator starts. Now bring your hand to the heater radiator near the fan. If you feel warm, the job is done right. Otherwise, there is air left in the system, or the thermostat has failed. Pay attention to the presence of leaks in the system.
At this point, the replacement of antifreeze in the VAZ 2112 is completed. Perform a check inspection, carefully inspect the system, close the hood and go about your business. After 2-3 days, check the antifreeze level in the system again.

Let's get started
First you need to place the machine on a flat surface. It is advisable that this be an inspection hole (if there is none, we take a jack). We need the latter in order to get to the fluid drain bolt.
It is located in the cylinder block, near the plug. To unscrew it, use a ratchet with a 13mm head.
Don’t forget to place a basin, bucket or canister under the cork. To increase the pressure of the liquid, unscrew the plastic cap on the expansion tank. This can cause a vacuum to form in the system. Further the flow of antifreeze will increase. After draining, screw the plug back in with a wrench. We take the funnel in our hands and install it in the neck of the expansion tank. Pour antifreeze from the canister. Do not pour in large portions - this will allow air into the system, the presence of which is undesirable. Then we check the system for the presence of traffic jams. To do this, press the rubber radiator pipe several times. It will gurgle at first. This means that air is coming out of it. For better effect, you can raise the car even higher. This will remove all unnecessary oxygen. Then close the hood and turn on the engine. After three minutes, turn it off and check the fluid level again. As a rule, after warming up, some of the antifreeze leaves the tank. Therefore, we top up to the mark between the maximum and minimum. This completes the replacement of antifreeze on a VAZ-2110 (8 valves)
It doesn't matter whether it's an injector or a carburetor. The system is the same and has not changed on the “tens” for years
Therefore, this instruction can be used for VAZs of different years of production with different engine sizes.
