Wax is used to improve the appearance of a car; with its help, a film is formed on the paintwork that has protective properties: it repels water, prevents the destructive effects of UV rays, resins and other harmful substances. When polishing the body, the material gets into all the cracks of the surface, due to which it is leveled. This coating washes and wipes off much better.

What determines the durability of the coating?

Wax packages for car coatings often indicate how many washes the coating can withstand. However, this indicator is affected not only by the composition of the product, but also by the hardness of the water. The softer it is, the longer the wax coating will remain on the body. The influence is exerted by harmful substances - both from water and from the air.

The durability of the coating is affected by the preparation of the paintwork - removing dirt, degreasing. If you carefully follow all the steps before applying wax, it can remain on the body even longer than normal.

Application

As mentioned, it is possible to apply all types of wax by hand, with the exception of foam. In any case, before creating the coating, it is necessary to clean the body of dirt by washing. Washing should be done using a non-contact method.

Waxing should not be done in the sun. You must first shake the composition thoroughly. Self-treatment of a car with liquid wax consists of applying it to a body surface that has not dried after washing and rubbing it with a napkin or rag.

It should be noted that liquid wax is often included in the cost of washing or is offered as an additional service at a low cost. However, the feasibility of using this material is questionable, since this service increases the cost of washing, and in order to maintain the effect it is necessary to repeat this operation every time. This explains the low cost of washing a car with this wax, which is 1-2 dollars.

Hard wax car body treatments at car washes range from $12 to $250. This difference in cost compared to liquid wax is explained by more complex application technology. In addition, the materials have a high cost, which can reach $500 per jar of hard wax.

It should be noted that liquid wax and spray versions are much more widespread compared to hard and synthetic wax. This is explained, first of all, by the high cost of applying the latter to the car body. Naturally, such wax is not intended for general use. It is usually used for expensive cars to protect them from damage to the paintwork. Treating cars with such wax on your own is also rarely used, due to the complexity of this process. Washing your car with car shampoo containing wax or applying liquid material is naturally much easier.

  • Wash with warm water mixed with shampoo in one container and plain water in the other.
  • You need to wash in one direction - from top to bottom.
  • To increase the efficiency of cleaning the car body during the washing process, you should wash it with a sheepskin glove, as it is a more effective cleaning tool compared to the various sponges usually used for this purpose.
  • It is advisable to wash the body and wheels with different sponges.
  • It is not advisable to wash your car with products based on silicone, as well as those containing alkalis or acids.

3. Hard water.

4. Poor quality detergents.

And, of course, this polish copes well with road dust, sand, small stones and other elements of the road surface.

By its nature, hot car wax is a fat-like substance that can be either synthetic or natural. This product melts at temperatures from 40 to 90 degrees Celsius. Most often, famous manufacturers add this to their products. This is the highest quality type of wax, which has excellent protective characteristics. Carnauba is almost completely transparent, hard and has a high melting point, and accordingly, it stays on the paintwork longer.

The best hard wax for cars

Hard wax is a durable coating whose service life is usually at least six months. But the price of such compounds is high, and processing requires a lot of time and effort.

Why is processing needed?

The idea of using wax to treat car bodywork is not new. The product hides chips and small scratches. It prevents corrosion, since moisture does not reach the treated metal. When rubbed, the substance heats up, its particles become more liquid, acquire the ability to penetrate into small cracks, filling them when hardening. The surface becomes smooth and the shine of the paintwork returns.

Paraffin, which is part of the wax, reliably protects against moisture and repels it at the molecular level. A hydrophobic film, invisible to the eye, appears on the body. It is able to protect against precipitation, chemicals used in various products for cars, washing roads, and clearing them of snow. The car becomes easier to wash, and it needs to be done much less often.

Benefits of using wax

Waxing your car after washing is beneficial. This has the following advantages:

  • The surface is reliably protected by the formed film. The treated coating repels moisture and aggressive substances, and makes it easy to wash off insects, tree resin, and other natural components that are usually difficult to clean from the car body.
  • Modern waxes and sealants protect paint from fading: they are able to reflect ultraviolet rays.
  • The treatment helps get rid of minor scratches and make the appearance of the car more attractive. However, the substance will not get rid of large and deep damage; only abrasive polishing will help.
  • The paint surface acquires additional shine, and sealants help protect it from damage.
  • Synthetic sealant can retain its properties for up to two to three months, if the car is operated in a gentle mode, its body is rarely exposed to aggressive substances.

Making the right choice between shine and protection

If you just want to add shine to the car body, you can use polishes containing silicone particles. But the shine of the paintwork and its protection are two different concepts. Therefore, you should not trust those manufacturers who promise both shine and high-quality protection of the car’s paintwork for a long time. Due to its properties, silicone not only does not protect the car from dust and stones, but is also capable of damaging the layer of wax previously applied to the vehicle. In the end, one thing will happen: either the car will simply shine, or the paintwork will simply be covered with an invisible layer of protection.

The best cold wax for cars

Cold wax is cheaper than other formulations. It is often offered at car washes as an additional option. This type of protection is useful to update and maintain existing coverage.

editorial assessment

95%

buyers recommend this product

Concentrated cold car wax with cherry scent is used quite economically: 20-40 ml of product is enough for 1 liter of water. A transparent bottle with a dispenser cap allows you to conveniently pour wax in small quantities and control the remainder of the product.

The resulting thin film of synthetic polymers repels water and dirt, adds shine, and protects the paintwork from precipitation and road agents. The drops quickly roll down the body, which significantly speeds up the drying of the car. The wax is safe for all types of paint and varnish coatings, is easily washed off and does not leave streaks.

Pros:

  • pleasant cherry aroma;
  • convenient packaging;
  • speeds up drying of the body;
  • does not leave streaks;
  • repels dirt and water;
  • cheap (140-150 rubles for 250 ml).

Minuses:

  • It's not always possible to buy.

Wax is good for manual and contactless washing. The low price and low consumption make it one of the market leaders, so the product is quickly sold out in stores.

  • water- and dust-repellent properties;
  • easy to apply and wash off;
  • adds shine and depth of color;
  • inexpensive (300 rubles per 1 liter).

Minuses:

  • short-lived result.

It is advisable to repeat the application at each wash, then the body will remain protected by wax all the time.

Question No. 4. What else should you pay attention to when buying wax?

Protective effect. Each wax composition is good at protecting against a specific external influence. In the summer, it is most important to choose a wax that will protect the paint from ultraviolet rays. In winter, the body needs protection from reagents, moisture and dirt. That is, the coating must be wear-resistant.

Gloss factor. Not every wax provides a shiny finish. In this case, however, the instructions on the packaging are not particularly helpful - each manufacturer promises, of course, the best result.

Composition of the product. If you value an environmentally friendly product, you should take a closer look at the “ingredients” and purchase natural wax. However, you cannot do without additives - solvents and emulsifiers are included in almost all waxes.

Price. More expensive, but not always better! Consult with professionals, they will suggest the most suitable product.

Question #1: How often should I wax my car?

It is recommended to carry out the procedure of applying it to the car at least twice a year. Once in the fall to provide the car with a protective layer from road salt and dirt. And once in the spring - to update the layer.

According to other sources (most likely, they will tell you this at the car wash), it is necessary to update the layer after every fourth or fifth wash.

Both options are working and have a right to exist. We will explain why this is so below.

Question No. 3. Natural or synthetic?

All waxes, from cheap to expensive, can be divided into two groups: natural and synthetic.

Natural waxes, as the name suggests, are made from natural ingredients. The base is almost always wax obtained from the leaves of the carnauba palm. In addition, beeswax, almond oil or even Aloe Vera are often used.

Synthetic waxes are produced artificially. Sometimes both types are mixed, some call it "hybrid wax".

What is important: is natural wax better? Not a fact, but, as a rule, natural waxes are more expensive.

In addition, as we said above, you can distinguish between the type of hard wax and spray. The former take longer to apply manually, but spray waxes last less.

Results

The winner of our rating is, of course, Soft99 Fusso Coat. This wax is characterized by the excellent quality of protection it provides, as well as the excellent final effect it leaves on the surface of the varnish. Its improved formula allows it to be applied much faster and more efficiently to the car's paintwork.

Thus, Fusso is the answer to the needs of every consumer, regardless of their level of experience. Second place went to the famous Fireball Fusion Wax, the formula of which remains a favorite among many users. Third place went to car wax Zymol, as one of the most recognizable waxes available on the Russian market.

How to apply?

A protective layer of body polish is applied after washing the car. Each time you visit a car wash, the polish may be partially washed off. It is recommended to regularly renew the coating layer.

To keep the body clean and get rid of stuck small particles, dirt, and stains, special waxes, clays, and various chemical compounds are used. So, when using Turtle Wax 2 in 1 paste, two tasks are solved at once: the body is cleaned of adhering dirt, gets rid of drips and stains, polishes the surface, and protects it from dirt and moisture. This saves time and effort.

In order to make the car cheaper, it is coated with a very thin layer of varnish. Parts are more susceptible to mechanical damage. They need additional protection. But abrasive polishing is available in limited quantities. There is no particular difference in waxes; the conditions in which the car will be used play an important role. If you do not use cleaners, polishing will take longer, but such a polish will protect better, since there will be no aggressive influence of the cleaning component.

What wax to buy for cars

All protective car coatings are based on carnauba wax. In its natural state it is hard as a rock. The amount of wax in the composition depends on the price and purpose of the polish.

With a carnauba wax content of only 25-30%, the ground composition acquires extremely high strength.

If a polish contains a high concentration, you should not trust such information - this is a fake.

  • Naturally based wax gives paintwork a distinct shine. If the coating is applied for decorative purposes, then this is an ideal option. However, such protection is short-lived and quickly wears off from the body.
  • Synthetic-based waxes are more durable and have good protection against UV rays. But the shine from synthetics is not so impressive.

Also, when choosing a wax, you need to check whether the composition matches the color of the car. There are special product lines for light and dark cars. There are also separate waxes for colored cars. If you need to treat several cars, it is better to buy a universal colorless composition.
