The Sandero cabin filter allows you to efficiently clean the outside air entering the car interior. Correctly selected cabin filter:
- effectively traps dust particles;
- eliminates unpleasant odors;
- partially captures toxic elements.
Considering that the air on the roads is quite dirty, the car interior cannot be left without the proper level of filtration. The reason is that particles and odors entering the limited interior space along with the outside air may well cause not only a deterioration in comfort, but also poor health of the driver and passengers. For this reason, the cabin filter needs to be changed regularly. Read more in our article.
Instructions for replacing the cabin filter on a Renault Sandero
The replacement itself, if the filter is already installed on the car, does not require any effort and is quite simple:
On the first generation Sandero, you need to press the latch at the bottom of the cover and then pull it towards you: the cover will remove the filter glued to it. The cover itself can be seen in the toe area of the passenger's left foot behind the center console trim.
On Sandero 2, you need to unscrew a pair of Torx 20 screws that tighten the cover on the air conditioner box, after which the cover is easily removed and the filter is pulled out of the hole on the edge.
When installing a new filter, you need to turn it slightly to make it easier to insert into the compartment. On the second generation, we orient the filter with the arrow towards the cabin; on the first, you can simply navigate by the location of the lock on the lid - it should be directed downwards.
When you remove the filter, most of the debris will fly out onto the mat, but some will spill inside. Therefore, before installing the filter, you should at least vacuum the compartment, and on machines equipped with air conditioning, it is necessary to regularly carry out antibacterial treatment of the air conditioner. Access to the evaporator opens when removing the filter from the compartment - you can spray a product purchased in auto chemical stores, or you can prepare it yourself from chlorhexidine or miramistin, pouring the solution into a home sprayer. The treatment technique is simple: pour the evaporator evenly, allowing the product, along with the dirt, to penetrate into the air conditioner drainage.
On machines that do not have a filter installed at the factory, you will need to cut off the plug that is integrally connected to the furnace body before installation. By placing the flashlight in a convenient place and looking at the purchased filter cover, it is not difficult to figure out exactly where to cut the plastic. For an even cut, it is more convenient to use a thin stationery knife, preferably its blade is preheated, so that you can do this in two to three minutes, without rushing.
Characteristic signs of blockage
Why is the filter clogged? This question is asked by many drivers. The air flow barrier is responsible for the cleanliness of the air entering the cabin. It is located in the channel between the radiator blades and the air intake. This allows dirty air to escape through the soft surface where all the foreign particles collect. If a problem occurs, the cabin filter must be replaced.
After some time, the porous base becomes so clogged that there is no dirt left anywhere. This requires replacing the Northern Fleet with Renault Sandero. After all, dusty air passes through the deflectors and contaminates the seats, upholstery, glass, and dashboard. In addition, an unpleasant odor appears in the cabin due to deposits on the engine and injectors.
According to the regulations, this event is considered mandatory for each maintenance, that is, it must be carried out annually or every 15 thousand km. Many hatchback drivers do this, but since the action is so simple, installing the new part can be done manually as needed.
There is no point in relying on average values, since the level and frequency of SF clogging depend on many factors. In winter, when the roads are wet due to rain, SF is completely unaffected. In the summer, if the car is used in the city or off-road, it works at full capacity and becomes clogged after 7,000 km.
In autumn, fallen leaves affect the operation of the ventilation system; in spring and summer they immediately become clogged with pollen and poplar fluff, which becomes a real nightmare for the car’s ventilation system. Experienced drivers often rely on the following signs of clogged SF:
- windows often sweat, no matter how humid or hot it is outside;
- the performance of your heating and air conditioning system or furnace suddenly decreases;
- The interior smells of burning and dust.
All of these signs indicate that the filter is faulty and needs to be replaced.
When should you change?
The cabin filter in Renault Sandero, like any other consumable, must be changed regularly. In principle, its replacement does not depend on the mileage of the car, although it is recommended to change it after 15 thousand kilometers. The period of time after which replacement is needed depends on the conditions in which the vehicle is operated. More frequent replacement is required when operating in a large city or in rural areas with a lot of dust and is expensive. In summer the air is more polluted than in winter.
To determine the need to replace the cleaning element in the cabin, it should be visually inspected periodically. There are signs by which you can determine whether it needs to be changed:
- The windows in the cabin constantly fog up, regardless of the weather;
- the efficiency of the stove and air conditioner decreases, as the cleaning element becomes dirty and its throughput decreases;
- The air in the cabin contains a lot of dust, and an unpleasant odor appears when the air conditioner operates.
Depending on the type of filter element, it purifies the air not only from contaminants, but also from unpleasant odors. Carbon filters have this property.
Stages
Once you have prepared all the necessary tools, you can begin the replacement procedure. An important feature of Renault Sandero: the filter may not be installed and you will have to install it yourself. Therefore, two options are possible: installing from scratch and replacing the old one.
The plug is located to the left of the bottom of the glove compartment.
Plug location
To change it you need to sit in the passenger seat. The procedure consists of the following steps:
- The filter is held in place by a clamp that must be removed.
Press the latch and pull out the product
- Then you should remove the old element. First pull the top and then the bottom.
- When the filter is removed, you must thoroughly clean the area in which it is located. It is best to carry out this procedure by turning on the aerator or vacuum cleaner.
- The new product needs to be pressed along the edges and started to be pushed from above, that is, first up and then down, until the latch snaps into place.
If the filter has not been installed before, there is a plug in its place that must be carefully cut out. In this case, the procedure includes the following steps:
- A plug is cut along the contour. The bottom of the board is more difficult to cut, the top is lighter.
Carefully cut out the cigarette butt
- When sawing timber, it is necessary to remove all burrs along the contour. The thickness of the plastic is approximately 2 mm.
- The size of the cut strip does not correspond to the size of the filter element, but do not be afraid, because this is how it should be. A new product must be inserted into the resulting hole.
Installation process
- When installing, the filter must be squeezed on both sides.
- First you need to wrap the top of the product, then the bottom until the latch is fixed.
- If desired, a fragrance can be applied to the filter element.
Installation takes no more than 20 minutes. But after this, only clean air enters the cabin. To check whether the consumables are installed correctly, you need to turn on maximum airflow. Air should not escape from the joints with the duct.
Until recently, filter elements were not installed in cabs, and many drivers still do not take them seriously. After all, cleaning the air inside a car is of great importance for the health of the driver and passengers.
Suitable sizes
When choosing a filter element, owners do not always use products recommended by the car manufacturer. Everyone has their own reasons for this, some say that the original is unreasonably expensive. Some people in the region sell only analogues, so you need to know the dimensions by which you can make a choice in the future:
- Height: 35 mm
- Width: 200 mm
- Length: 216 mm
As a rule, sometimes analogues of the Renault Sandero Stepway II can be a few millimeters larger or smaller than the original, there is nothing wrong with that. And if the difference is calculated in centimeters, then of course it’s worth looking for another option.
Selecting an original cabin filter
The manufacturer recommends using only original consumables, which, in general, is not surprising. They themselves are not of poor quality and are very popular in car dealerships, but their price tag may seem overpriced to many car owners.
Regardless of the configuration, the manufacturer recommends installing a cabin air filter with article number 272773016R (dust) or 272773151R (coal) on all second-generation Renault Sandero Stepways. They are also known with other article numbers, there is no difference between them and they are interchangeable:
- 272770567R
- 272777764R
- 272778214R
- 272779683R
- 272889739R
Please note that consumables and other replacement parts may sometimes be supplied to dealers with different part numbers. Sometimes this can confuse those who want to purchase the original product.
When choosing between a dusty and carbon product, car owners are advised to use a carbon filter element. This filter is more expensive, but cleans the air much better.
It is not difficult to distinguish it - the paper accordion filter is impregnated with a carbon composition, and therefore has a dark gray color. The filter cleans the air flow from dust, fine dirt, germs, bacteria and enhances lung protection.
Which analogues to choose
In addition to simple cabin filters, there are also carbon filters that filter the air more effectively, but they are more expensive. The advantage of SF coal is that it does not allow odors from outside (outside) into the car.
But this filter element also has a drawback - air does not pass through it well. GodWill and Corteco carbon filters are quite high quality and are a good replacement for the original.
However, in some retail outlets the price of the original second-generation Renault Sandero Stepway cabin filter may be significantly inflated. In this case, it makes sense to buy a non-original consumer product. In particular, cabin filters are considered quite popular:
Conventional dust filters for the cabin
- MANN-FILTER CU22011 - technological consumables from a well-known manufacturer
- LARGE FILTER GB-9978 - popular brand, good fine cleaning
- Filter Nevsky NF6433 - Russian manufacturer with an affordable price
Carbon cabin filters
- MANN-FILTER CUK22011 - high-quality dense carbon spray
- LARGE FILTER GB-9978/C – activated carbon
- Filter Nevsky NF6433C - normal quality, affordable price
It makes sense to take a closer look at the products of other companies - they also specialize in the production of high-quality consumables for passenger cars:
- Corteco
- Filter
- SCT
- Sakura
- Good will
- Fram
- JS Asakashi
- Sample
- Zeckert
- Masuma
- Nipparts
- Purflux
- Knecht Mahle
it is possible that sellers recommend replacing the Sandero Stepway II cabin filter with non-original, inexpensive substitutes with a much smaller thickness. They are not worth buying, since their filtering characteristics are unlikely to be at the proper level.
How to choose the right filter
If an original component for Renault Sandero is required for replacement, it should be found in the catalogs under article numbers 272775374R or 272773016R, respectively, for cars of two generations. There is also a cabin “native” carbon filter with number 272773151R, which provides better air purification than a dust filter.
“Consumable” coal can be easily distinguished from dusty coal by its dark gray surface color
However, original components are quite expensive. Therefore, you can take an analogue of comparable quality, but much cheaper. Options for replacing the cabin filter are possible both on the very first Renault Sandero models of 2011-2012 and on the latest modifications.
The following dust and carbon filters are popular for several generations of cars:
- Filter K 1152 and K 1321;
- FRAM CF9691 and CFA9691;
- KNECHT / MAHLE LA 230 and LAK 230;
- Mahle LA 230 and LA 923;
- Bosch 1 987 432 120 and 1 987 435 011;
- MANN-FILTER CU 1829, CUK1829 and CU 22011.
The cost of components and “original” analogues often differs by 2-3 times
Important! When choosing an analogue from any manufacturer, you need to focus on the dimensions of the original - 182x42x207 mm. They are the same for cars of any generation.
However, you shouldn’t save much on replacing the cabin filter on a Renault Sandero either. At a very low cost, the quality will be far from the best. Cheap “analogues” differ from the original by being much thinner, so they cannot filter the air properly, allowing dust, other small particles of “garbage” and unpleasant odors to enter the cabin.
Who wins in terms of engines and gearboxes?
Lada is available with two engines - 1.6 (106 hp) and 1.8 (122 hp). In terms of dynamics, the 1.8 with manual transmission is faster than any version of Renault. It accelerates to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds, while the best figure for the Sandero is 11.1 seconds.
The engine range of the “French” is a little “richer”. This includes three 1.6 liter engines with 82, 102 and 113 hp. With. The latter, paired with a CVT, beats the XRAY in terms of efficiency - 6.7 liters in the combined cycle versus 7.0 liters for the 1.6 engine.
Both units are considered problem-free, although the VAZ 1.8 has an increased oil appetite. Owners of early cars complained that consumption reached several liters per 10 thousand km.
The problem did not affect all cars, but it’s still worth checking this point with the seller if you don’t want to constantly carry a canister. Also, in early versions of 1.8, expansion tanks burst at the seam. The problem was widespread and was resolved under warranty.
Stepway engines 1.6 liters for 82 and 102 liters. With. are equipped with a timing belt drive, which needs to be changed every 60 thousand km (5 thousand rubles per replacement). On an 82-horsepower engine at the same mileage, valve adjustment will be required.
The Lada, unlike the Sandero, does not have the usual automatic transmission, only a 5-speed robot with one clutch. It works too jerkily and unpredictably, which caused a lot of criticism from car owners.
Everything is fine with the resource of the box. If you change the oil on time, it will last a long time, which cannot be said about an old French four-speed automatic. He does not like fast driving and slipping and is considered not the most reliable. In the “pensioner” manner of operation, the automatic machine will live up to 150-200 thousand km. But if you are a fan of the “fast and the furious” or a notorious “jeeper”, get ready for a major overhaul up to 100 thousand km. It will cost at least 25 thousand rubles.
In terms of reliability, there are no complaints about the XRAY and Sandero Stepway manual transmissions. Owners only complain about short gears.

Self-replacement of the cabin filter of Renault Sandero 1st and 2nd generation (video and photo).
Good afternoon. In today's article I will tell you how to replace the cabin filter on Renault Sandero 1st and 2nd generation. Traditionally for our site, the article contains clear instructions for photos and videos. Replacing the cabin filter on a Renault Sandero is very simple and does not require special tools.
General recommendations.
The cabin filter is changed at TO-2 (every 15,000 km) or before the start of the winter season. In addition, frequent fogging of the glass is an indicator of filter replacement.
First and second generation Renault Sandero cars have different cabin filters, so the recommendations for replacing them are slightly different.
We work independently
The manufacturer itself and numerous Renault Sandero owners recommend the Good Will AG136CFC cabin filter as a replacement. The consumable is made of special porous paper in the shape of an accordion. It has a carbon coating in its structure, which allows for more thorough cleaning of the air entering the car and disinfecting it.
The plug is a black plastic rectangle, made in one piece and located on the right side of the lower part of the glove compartment. You need to cut it straight along the contour: it is indicated by convex lines stretched along the perimeter of the hole being cut. It is recommended to carry out this procedure in two stages. Start from the middle, where the conditional center of the rectangle is marked. Then they cut out a square window in the lower part: this will avoid touching the wiring and damaging the fragile plastic.
Next, after vacuuming the opened cavity, you need to replace or install the consumable in place
To do this, its body is compressed as much as possible parallel to the folds of the paper and very carefully inserted along the guides
In this case, it is extremely important to start from the top corner: otherwise, the part will not fall into place. The lower part is a latch, so when you hear a characteristic sound, the work can be considered completed
