The Russian SUV Chevrolet Niva is highly popular among domestic motorists. One of the reasons for stable demand is high traffic. In addition, the machine is unpretentious in maintenance and has an affordable price. In order for a car to realize its full potential, it is important to choose the right tires. It is best to do this taking into account the time of year and the nature of the roads being overcome. With the help of our experts, we will try to determine the range of suitable tires.
Recommendations for choosing tires for the Chevrolet Niva
Manufacturer's recommendations
. Depending on the modification of the Chevrolet Niva, R15 or R16 wheels are installed on the factory assembly line. Therefore, before going to a car store, you should find out the equipment of your iron horse. The most common tire sizes are:
- 205/70R15;
- 205/75R15;
- 215/75R15;
- 215/65R16.
Seasonality
. For different times of the year, you should select seasonal “shoes” for the Chevrolet Niva.
- Summer tires behave well in the warm season, allowing the driver to enjoy a fast ride. It is quiet and has good rolling power.
- Winter tires are indispensable when operating a car on snowy or icy roads. Friction models are recommended for the southern regions of the country, and for northern routes it is better to prefer tires with studs.
- For those who like to ride through meadows and forests, special mud tires are recommended. It features an aggressive deep tread that is easy to clean off the ground. The only disadvantage of special tires will be noise on asphalt.
Speed and load index
. Many Chevrolet Niv owners use their cars as workhorses. Some reckless drivers are trying to set a speed record on paved highways. Therefore, when choosing tires, you should pay attention to the speed and load index.
- Speed characteristics are encrypted in letter designation (Latin letters). For example, “T” indicates a top speed of 190 km/h, and “V” allows you to accelerate to 240 km/h.
- The Chevrolet Niva can be seriously loaded, but only if you have the appropriate tires. The load index has a digital designation. If with the marking “60” the maximum weight per wheel is 250 kg, then with “113” this value will increase to 1150 kg.
We have selected the 14 best tires for the Chevrolet Niva for review. All models are sold in auto stores in our country. When distributing places, the editors of the journal expertology took expert opinions as a basis, taking into account the reviews of Russian crop farmers.
Standard wheel sizes
The factory equipment of the Shnivy provides for the installation of two wheel options: 15- and 16-inch. Based on this, and also taking into account the dimensions of the wheel arches, the tire sizes are also binary: 205/75 R15 and 215/65 R16. When using wheels with such indicators, the manufacturer guarantees their trouble-free mileage in a variety of conditions, including even diagonal hanging.

At the same time, some deviations from the factory settings are allowed. For example, 215/75 R15 tires fit well into existing wheel arches without catching wheel arches or other parts of the body even with maximum steering or when driving off-road. However, if you install “mud” tires of the same size in this car, then in some positions the side wheel lugs may abnormally catch the wheel arch liners or bumper. 225/75 R16 tires can behave similarly if the steering wheel is in one extreme position or another.
The standard wheels of the Chevrolet Niva ensure trouble-free operation of the vehicle in a variety of road conditions.
Tire markings are deciphered as follows:
- tire width in millimeters;
- percentage ratio of the tire height to its width;
- inner (landing) diameter of the tire in inches.
Tire sizes are directly related to their performance. Wide tires have a larger grip area and a shorter braking distance. In addition, wide wheels have a lower specific ground pressure, which improves the vehicle's maneuverability in off-road conditions. That is, the advantages of wide tires are obvious. However, there is also a downside to the coin, which worsens the good picture of using wide tires:
- As tire width increases, rolling friction increases proportionally, which requires additional fuel consumption.
- A large area of contact with the road provokes aquaplaning, that is, sliding through puddles, which is less likely with narrow tires.
- Reducing the specific ground pressure, which improves the vehicle's off-road performance, simultaneously worsens the vehicle's handling on country roads.
- Wide tires weigh more than narrow tires, which puts additional stress on the suspension.
That is, the use of wide tires is justified only when the vehicle is primarily used in off-road conditions.
Based on the ratio of the height of the tire to its width, tires are divided into:
- low profile (from 55% and below);
- high-profile (up to 60–75%);
- full-profile (from 80% and above).
At the factory, high-profile tires are installed on the Chevrolet Niva car. In order to install full-profile tires on it, it is necessary to carry out a suspension lift. If you install low-profile tires on standard wheels, the ground clearance can reach a dangerously low level, which threatens the car’s components with damage.
2056017 with an overall wheel height of 31.4 inches and a 265/70/17 of 31.6 inches.
2358516 is 31.7 inches, 2657516 is 31.6 inches, and 2857016 is 31.7 inches.
215/75 R15 - 31.3 inches.
Without using lifting, you can install wheels on a Chevrolet Niva 4x4 with the dimensions discussed above. It should be taken into account that although these dimensions fit normally into the standard parameters of the car, when using, for example, “mud” tires, problems may arise with the wheels catching the wheel arch liners or bumper. Most often, Shniva owners install UAZ wheels with a diameter of 31 inches on their cars.
Often, car enthusiasts believe that lifting increases the ground clearance of the car. However, this is not an entirely accurate judgment. In reality, ground clearance is increased due to the use of wheels of larger diameter, which can reach 33 inches. But lifting helps to install such wheels.
- more aggressive surroundings of the car;
- possibility of installing mud tires on it;
- protection of components and assemblies from road irregularities due to higher ground clearance.
Most often, the lifted Chevrolet Niva 4x4 is equipped with wheels reaching a size of 240/80 R15.
Lifting allows you to install wheels of a larger diameter and with better maneuverability on your car.
The wheel size for this SUV is in accordance with the parameters of the installed wheel rim. The disk on the Chevrolet Niva has the following parameters: disk offset (ET) - 40 mm, bolt pattern - 5x39.5 mm, hub hole diameter - 98.5 mm. The mounting diameters of the wheels, depending on the modification of the SUV, come in sizes 15 and 16 inches.

As standard, the SUV is equipped with aluminum and steel stamped wheel rims. Owners can change them to purchased cast or forged ones.

The wheel alignment angles on the Chevrolet Niva SUV are as follows:
- The longitudinal inclination angle of the turning axis is 3° 40' /-30'. This is the angle between the vertical and the projection of the line that passes through the centers of the ball joints onto a plane that is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the machine. It stabilizes the steering of the wheels in the direction of straight-line movement.
- Wheel camber angle - 0° 30' / -30'. This is the angle between the plane of rotation of the wheel in a straight position and the vertical. It is responsible for the correct position of the rolling wheel during suspension operation.
- The wheel toe value is 0/-1 mm. This is the angle between the plane of rotation of the wheel and the longitudinal axis of the car.

- reach length;
- tire width;
- height in percent;
- diameter of the metal rim.
The higher the disc is installed on the car, the greater the risk of skidding and reduced control efficiency. At the same time, excessively low wheels also negatively affect ground clearance, lower ground clearance, and limit the vehicle’s maneuverability.

- Pirelli P7 Cinturato Blue - long service life is the main highlight of the rubber. The average service life exceeds 65,000 km before replacement. Average price from 5500 rubles.
Service station specialists strongly recommend changing tires strictly according to the seasons, and to a lesser extent using universal, all-season tires. The operating temperature range is several degrees lower than seasonal tires, resulting in reduced vehicle controllability.
To choose the right tire you need to be able to read the indices and other symbols on the tires, namely:
- “T” - the maximum permitted speed of movement is not more than 195 km / h. “H” - up to 205 - 210 km/h. It is not recommended to exceed the speed range, as there is a high probability of shooting, cord deformation, and, as a result, an emergency;
- “Q” - load capacity index: from 85 to 490 kg;
- “ET” is the metal rim bead extension coefficient;
- “KM” - partial and full load index: no more than three passengers, cargo in the trunk up to 50 kg;
- “M S” - full load - more than three people and over 50 kg in the trunk.
The main task of the controller is to monitor changes in air pressure in the tire and transmit data online to the electronic control unit. The latter compares the indicators with the programmed ones and informs the driver about a possible malfunction. Most often, this is a sound signal combined with light flickering.
Principle of operation
- A pressure measuring sensor is installed on the inside of the tire. This must be done with the wheel lowered.
- After activation, the controller measures the pressure every 3 seconds and sends the data to the ECU. Bluetooth technology is used as a means of communication.
- The electronic control unit analyzes the obtained indicators for each of the wheels and compares them with the specified parameters.
- The end result can be duplicated on a smartphone if a special application is installed on the latter.

Selection of all-season tires
All-season tires differ from others in their tread. The whole secret is that the inner side of such a tire is used for driving on loose snow, and the outer side is used to drain water from the tire contact patch to ensure better traction. When choosing, special attention should be paid to the composition of all-season tires installed on the Chevrolet Niva.
Hard tires are suitable for summer use, reducing wear. The soft one performs better in winter for traveling on snowy and icy roads. Rubber with medium hardness at a medium level will cope with its task at any time of the year. The composition of all-season tires is selected in such a way that they do not harden in cold weather and do not blur in summer. With all this, it is not subject to rapid wear when driving on a dry road and is relatively safe when traveling on snow or ice.
When choosing all-season tires, it’s easy to navigate if you know the main markings on the sides of the rubber:
The last two designations are used by manufacturers for summer tires.
According to various tests that are regularly carried out by authoritative publications, the same thing is confirmed every year: a high-quality all-season tire cannot be cheap. All-season tires have a number of significant disadvantages:
- high noise level;
- increased fuel consumption;
- reduction in dynamic characteristics;
- increased wear.
These tires can be used in the following situations:
- mild winter with positive temperatures;
- limited budget;
- there is no space to store two sets of tires;
- desire to save money on tire fitting;
- the off-season, when it’s too early to install a summer one, but it’s a pity to expose the winter one to wear and tear.
Winter tires are always unbeatable on icy roads. All-season tires show the following results: compared to winter ones, they cope with their task worse by 30-40%, studded ones show a better result by 90%. The same disappointing results on loose snow - up to 85% worse.
The best summer tires for Chevrolet Niva
From spring to autumn, it is best to drive a Chevrolet Niva on summer tires. Especially when the daily route runs along city streets or country roads. Experts liked the following tire models.
Yokohama BluEarth-Van RY55
Rating: 4.9
Summer tires Yokohama BluEarth-Van RY55 are designed for use on commercial vehicles, crossovers and SUVs. The element of rubber is city streets and country roads. In such conditions, the tires feel confident on both dry and wet asphalt. Experts note fuel efficiency, which should please Chevrolet Niva owners. Japanese designers worked out the tread pattern in detail, this made it possible to increase directional stability and reduce rubber deformation in the transverse direction. Domestic motorists also express their solidarity with the experts, making the model the winner of our review.
The main advantages of tires, according to users, are softness, wear resistance, and good balancing.
Advantages
- directional stability;
- affordable price;
- resistance to transverse deformation;
- fuel efficiency.
Flaws
- not detected.
Continental CrossContact ATR
Rating: 4.8
A successful balance between the main performance qualities allowed the Continental CrossContact ATR summer tires to win silver in our review. German tires are designed for crossovers and SUVs. The tread pattern has an unusual look for the brand. In the center there is a large number of blocks, united in groups of threes. They are responsible for directional stability and excellent traction and grip properties. If the central part is flexible, then the shoulder areas have a rigid connection. This structure increases efficiency during acceleration, maneuvering and braking.
Positive assessments prevail in reviews of Russian consumers. Car enthusiasts like tires for their versatility, noiselessness, and tenacity. The downside is the high price.
Advantages
- good handling;
- noiselessness;
- effective braking;
- resistance to aquaplaning.
Flaws
- high price.
Tire prices
The cost of tires depends on the manufacturer and tire size. At the same time, summer, winter and all-season tires of the same manufacturer and size are almost the same in price. Only studded tires are noticeably more expensive.
Approximate cost of 15-inch tires for Chevrolet Niva:
- Kama Flame - 3600 rub.
- Dunlop - 4300 rub.
- Hankook - 4350 rub.
- Barguzin - 3000 rub.
Tires for Shniva with a seat size of 16 inches are slightly more expensive.
To increase the ground clearance of the Chevrolet Niva, ready-made or home-made “lifting kits” are used. When lifting a car at a high altitude, even shock absorbers, springs and some other suspension parts have to be changed. Thanks to this, it will be possible to insert tires of increased height into the wheel arches. Typically, lifted Shnivy tires are fitted with tires up to 240/80 R15.
Among domestically produced SUVs, Chevrolet Niva has received a well-deserved leadership in sales. But a relatively small percentage of owners use it for its intended purpose - off-road. This car acts as an everyday vehicle. Most often it can be found in rural areas as an excellent option for dirt roads and highway driving. Not everyone decides to “knead the dirt” on a Chevrolet Niva.
Reviews of the best brands: popular options for summer and winter tires
Tires for a car are the most important structural unit necessary for the full functioning of the vehicle - you should not skimp on the quality of these components.
Read more: How to choose tires for rims
When choosing new tires, you should follow the pricing policy of dealer products - a high-quality tire will cost around +/- 15% of this cost, which is explained by the markup for the brand and the cost of transporting the product to the point of sale. The obviously low price of analogues of original components is a discrepancy between the rubber and the declared technical characteristics or an improper storage method, which leads to a deterioration in the quality of the products.
In order for the tires to last longer and ensure uniform adhesion to the road surface, it is recommended to calibrate the slopes when changing a set of tires or every six months. Balancing the ramps consists of diagnosing the trajectory of the wheel and identifying deviated vectors relative to the radius of movement, as well as leveling the ramp by installing weights under the cord of the product.

Which all-season vehicle for Niva 4x4 is better?
It is a well-known fact that you can’t install winter tires in the summer, as they will begin to melt due to high temperatures, and in the winter you can’t install summer tires, because you can’t avoid trouble on the road in icy conditions. All-season optimal tires size r16 for Niva 21213 4x4. The main manufacturers of all-season 4x4 tires are: Kumho (South Korea), Cordiant, and domestic ones: Belshina OJSC and Nizhnekamskshina. The latter brand is widely known throughout Russia.
The Cordiant brand produces all-season tires for Niva in 15 and 16 inches. Thanks to the solid base of all-season wheels of sizes r15 and r16, the model is protected from any minor damage. According to reviews from car owners of 4x4 size r16 all-season vehicles using this type, they talk about the following advantages: cross-country ability, accessibility and softness when driving in any weather.
Another tire model is Toyo Open Country A/T Plus. This tire is suitable for both off-road and asphalt roads. The cost of tires is about 4000 rubles. Due to the wide drainage channels existing in these tires, moisture and dirt are easily removed.
When choosing an all-season tire, it is better to follow the recommendations from the manufacturer and do not forget that such tires will have to be changed more often than summer or winter tires.
ABOUT COMPATIBILITY OF TIRES AND WHEELS
If you decide to replace the standard wheels and tires on a Chevrolet (LADA) Niva, then rely on the full diameter of the wheel. How to do this, using the example of 205/70 R15:
- A disk with a diameter of 15″ is equal to 15 * 25.4 (1 inch = 2.54 cm) = 381 mm.
- The height of the tire profile is calculated as follows: 205*70/100=143.5 mm.
- Add up the rim diameter and two tire profile heights: 381 + 143.5 * 2 = 668 mm.
In order not to perform such calculations, we post a compatibility table for tires and wheels for the Chevrolet Niva (left for 205/70R15, right for 215/60R17):
Green
the minimum deviation of the wheel diameter is indicated (up to 3 mm);
Orange
indicates a diameter deviation from 3 to 6 mm.
We can determine the width of the rim using the table:
When installing tires or wheels that differ in parameters from those recommended by the factory, you can:
- be refused warranty repair of the chassis;
- be stopped by a traffic police inspector, who has the right to draw up a report on the car’s non-compliance with the requirements of the Technical Regulations;
- fail to pass technical inspection.
Attention!
Installing larger wheels may lead to problems with ABS and ESP calibration (the systems may not work correctly).

Information on measures taken to counter COVID-19
It's the end of summer, it's time to pick up winter tires for your iron horse. And for the owners of Niva and Sheviks, today I have a full review from the owner of a Chevy, who has been driving our domestic Kama 515 tires for 3 seasons.
It has a studless modification (because it is used all year round, and studs on asphalt are not comme il faut), but there are also exactly the same studs on sale. The price tag is very humane; with the rise in the dollar exchange rate, all growers will have to “put on shoes” in domestic tires, both summer and winter. At first I thought that he had something imported, it had been driving for many years, it was stable. He came up and looked - yikes, Kama. Well, I say - tell me what and how))
So, now, in fact, information on this model of Nizhnekamskshina. Available in 5 sizes, all suitable for Niva and Chevy. Most Popular:
- 215/65/R16
- 205/75/R15
The price tag is approximately 2600-2800 for these models. As we see, it’s quite humane, especially during a crisis.
The first is more often installed by car owners, the second by Chevy owners. It all depends on what kind of drives you have, as well as where you use them. The tread pattern is very “winter”, thanks to which the tire behaves normally even on loose snow, on melted snow, on crust, and on ice, of course, worse. Of the minuses, I will note first of all the “instability” of the batch, as a result of which one wheel can be balanced by 40 grams, and the second and third by 100 and 150. So when buying, choose a rounder one. And according to people’s reviews, balancing is the weak point of the 515th Kama.
In winter, my impressions are positive, especially in loose, deep snow - I constantly drive in the “park wherever I want” mode, there are always a couple of places with snowdrifts where I can park. And if everything around is busy, I turn on the low switch and eat a snowdrift. The rubber rolls very cool.
You need to drive carefully on ice; perhaps it would be better with spikes. But if you drive headlong, brake with the engine in advance, then it’s quite possible to drive in winter. The tread has winter Velcro sipes, making the tire all-season. As it turned out later, many of the breeders I know own exactly the 515th Kama, which they drive “in tail and mane” all year round.
I use the Kama 515 all year round and even with decent mileage on asphalt it sharpens very slowly. According to my estimates, there are enough thousand for 70-80 years of use for sure. Although after a year the 4 slats have worn down noticeably and in winter it will no longer be comfortable to drive.
Well, the main use in the summer is fishing and hunting trips, on dirt roads, country roads and mud. Everything suits me here, the mud performance is like that of an AT, and driving on the highway is quite comfortable. Of course, you shouldn’t get into serious mud; the tread pattern is far from the pattern of MUD slippers. But with a lowering, center blocking and a clear head you can go very far, believe me. Well, at worst, I have a fiskar, an ax and a jack)) That’s enough for me.
If we compare it with imported all-season tires for Niva, then the price tag there is already one and a half to two times higher. On average, imported tires cost about 5,000 rubles per cylinder. But here it’s only 2800 - there’s a difference. And in my opinion, the Kama 515 is quite suitable for Niva and Chevy for year-round use. If you don't drive headlong in winter. In fact, these are the optimal cheap tires for year-round use - in snow, mud and asphalt. Other domestic models have a clear bias either towards the summer or towards the winter.

How to choose tires for the Niva and what sizes of tires come from the Niva assembly line?
Despite the fact that the Niva car is presented in a wide range of modifications, all models are equipped with one tire size: 185/75 R16. It is these tires that provide the necessary cross-country ability of the tire on different types of road surfaces.
But many car owners prefer to replace factory wheels with tires from other brands to improve the appearance of the vehicle and increase its technical characteristics.
It should be remembered that the maximum wheel width should be no more than 215 mm. This is quite reasonable, since installing larger tires will increase fuel consumption, increase the load on the stepped units and have a negative impact on cross-country ability.
In addition to the standard size, when choosing tires for the Niva, pay attention to several more important parameters:
- Seasonality . To make summer and winter tires, different types of rubber compounds are used, which differ in their level of hardness. Due to this, the tire maintains its performance characteristics even in hot weather and at extremely low temperatures.
- Presence of thorns . Studded tires are installed not only for winter travel. If the car owner often drives off-road or in mud, it is also worth giving preference to studded tires. For urban conditions, the use of such tires is unprofitable.
- Quality of moisture removal . The drainage system of the tire is responsible for this criterion. It is important that there are deep and wide grooves between the tread blocks, which remove moisture from the contact patch and provide excellent traction even with wet grass, mud and puddles.
Who compensates whom?
The damage, of course, must be compensated by the causer of the harm, so it is important to identify the causer and prove that it was his fault that the accident occurred. If you manage to bring road workers to justice, they will pay for the repair of your car
Damage will be calculated according to the general rule, that is, according to average market prices for spare parts and services, and not according to the MTPL methodology, since road services, of course, do not and should not have auto insurance
If you can hold the road workers accountable, they will pay for the repairs of your car. Damage will be calculated according to the general rule, that is, according to average market prices for spare parts and services, and not according to the MTPL method, since the road services, of course, do not and should not have a motor vehicle license.
But the driver can also compensate the road services for damages if an accident occurs due to his fault and the road, signs, bumper guard or traffic lights are damaged.
What should you know when you need to buy wheels for a Chevrolet?
Before buying tires, you need to know the size of the rims and their main characteristics. If you do everything correctly, the tires will definitely fit the car.
The manufacturer has provided the following installation options:
- 205/70 R15;
- 205/75 R15;
- 215/65 R16.
The nomenclature is easy to decipher - the first number means the width of the tire, in this case it can be 205 or 215 mm. The number separated by a fraction shows the height of the profile as a percentage of its width, and the last number indicates the diameter of the disk for which the rubber is intended.
Tires are suitable for all wheels, and they can come under different markings:
- 6×15 ET 40;
- 6.5×15 ET 40;
- 6.5×16 ET 40;
- 7x16 ET 40.
ET 40 is the offset, it is the same for all cars and is 40 mm. Pay attention to the first number, it shows the width of the rim in inches. If you put tires on a rim less than 6J, very soon the rubber will “lead” and it will become unusable.
