How to change the oil in UAZ Patriot transmission units - axles, transfer case and gearbox

UAZ Patriot is one of the most popular SUVs on Russian roads. It was promoted to a leadership position in sales not only by its more affordable price compared to foreign analogues, but also by its excellent cross-country ability, which is relevant for domestic operating conditions. The car also deserves attention due to its excellent maintainability, unpretentiousness and ease of maintenance, which allows consumers to carry out simple technical tasks at home.

How to change the oil in the axle and transfer case of a UAZ Patriot.

Transmission units of an SUV, to some extent even more than similar units of other vehicles, require regular and timely maintenance, since the vehicle is often operated in difficult and extreme conditions. In this article, we will look at how often it is necessary to fill oil into the axles of a UAZ Patriot, how to replace the transmission lubricant on your own, and which fluid is most effective for the axles and transfer case of an SUV.

Changing oils in the gearbox and gearbox - logbook of the 2014 UAZ Patriot Limited on DRIVE2

Finally got around to changing the oil in the gearbox and transfer case. The oil was cloudy in both places, but not black. No metal fragments were found, which is good news))), but metal dust from the running-in is present on the magnets of the drain plugs, and there is more of it in the gearbox, which is predictable.

Another thing is more interesting - 2.2 liters of oil drained from the transfer case, this is with the volume stated in the manual being 1.8 liters).

When unscrewing the filler plug, the air was released, i.e. there was excess pressure. I thought that there was pressure coming from the gearbox, but 2.7 liters leaked out of the gearbox (with a capacity according to the manual of 2.5). I checked the breathers, they are not clogged. They pour it from the heart at production)). I poured about 2 liters into the transfer case. Lil Castrol Transmax Z, because I have a strong belief that pouring a regular transmission into a chain transfer case with an oil pump is nonsense. It is this oil because its properties are approximately at the border of the differences between transmissions and ATF for automatic transmissions, and it can be poured according to the specifications in both manual and automatic transmissions.

Without further ado, I filled the gearbox with the semi-synthetic recommended by Zic G-FF Top 75w85.

DIY replacement instructions

The list of tools used for topping up is supplemented with a container for collecting waste liquid. Before starting work, the machine is brought into the inspection hole. Before changing the oil, warm up the car, using it for its intended purpose for at least 15 minutes. This promotes liquefaction and easy removal of waste. The replacement is done like this:

  1. Place a container under the bottom to drain used oil from the transfer case. Using a wrench, unscrew the plug located in the lower part of the crankcase. Unscrewing the fill valve speeds up the waste removal process.
  2. Wait for the liquid to drain and screw in the drain plug. Before installation, the part is cleaned of dirt.
  3. Lubricant is injected using a syringe. Filling oil with a watering can will not work. A technical syringe copes with this task better.
  4. Once the desired level is reached, the filling is stopped. The plug is returned to its place.

The work is completed by turning on the engine, which promotes uniform distribution of lubricant.
