The maintenance regulations state that the first oil change in the engine should be done after 3 thousand kilometers, and then at each maintenance (after 15 thousand kilometers) or once a year, whichever comes first.
You will need : warm up the engine to operating temperature, prepare new engine oil and filter, a “17” wrench, an oil filter remover (or a large screwdriver), clean rags and an empty container (4 l).
How to drain engine oil
For convenience, it is recommended to drive the car onto a pit/overpass, then:
- Unscrew the oil filler cap on the engine.
- Clean the oil pan from dirt, install an empty container and unscrew the drain plug from the bottom of the car using a 17mm wrench. Be careful not to burn yourself!
After all the oil has run out (about 10 minutes), clean the plug from dirt and screw it back in.
How to replace the oil filter
The oil filter is located behind the engine.
We place an empty container under it and unscrew the oil filter counterclockwise using a puller. Another way to unscrew the oil filter is to pierce its housing with a screwdriver (closer to the bottom of the filter, so as not to damage the engine fitting), unscrew the filter, using the screwdriver as a lever.
Fill the new filter halfway with new engine oil and lubricate the sealing ring with it. Then install the oil filter, tightening it by hand until the O-ring comes into contact with the cylinder block. After this, tighten the oil filter another 3/4 turn.
Oil filter, change along with the oil, why and what quality of filter is needed
As noted above, after each replacement of lubricant in the engine, installation of a new oil filter is required. There are a lot of such products on the modern automotive market, so choosing a truly worthwhile product is quite difficult.
First of all, you should pay attention to the brand and cost of the product. Dimensions are no less important. In addition to original filters, there may also be analogues on sale. They are cheaper and of lower quality than original products.
When replacing the fluid, be sure to install a new sealing ring for the drain plug to avoid oil leakage during vehicle operation.
How to add motor oil to the engine
We pour new oil into the engine through the oil filler neck; approximately 3.2 liters of oil will be required (about 0.3 liters of oil will still remain in the engine). We control the level using the oil dipstick (the oil level should be between the MIN and MAX marks).
Screw on the cap and start the engine for 1-2 minutes. We check that there are no leaks from under the plug and oil filter, and wait until the oil pressure indicator on the instrument cluster goes out.
Control check: stop the engine and check the oil level with a dipstick, if necessary, add oil to the specified level.
Stages of replacing lubricant VAZ 2105
On classic Lada cars or the more familiar Zhiguli, a convenient drainage of used oil from the engine is provided. The oil filter is also easily accessible and can be reached from the engine compartment.
During the production of the VAZ 2105, a large number of modifications were produced, which were equipped with various engines. Experienced drivers note good maintainability, unpretentiousness in maintenance, as well as consumables.

Using this method, you can drain the maximum amount of used oil, after which you can proceed to further actions. The main thing is not to forget, everything that we unscrewed must be put back in place.
Flushing the lubrication system
Flushing the engine on a VAZ 2105 should be carried out only in exceptional cases, which include:
- Purchasing a used car when you cannot know about the quality, as well as the regularity of lubricant replacements.
- During operation, the service replacement interval was repeatedly exceeded.
- Engine operation with constant frequent overheating, which contributes to coking and other deposits.
- In cases of switching to another type, for example from synthetics to semi-synthetics.
There are several types of flushes for the VAZ 2105 engine:
- Five- or seven-minute, capable of cleaning even the most difficult deposits. They must be used very carefully and strictly follow the instructions printed on the packaging. It is recommended to use them only when absolutely necessary. Since there is a high probability of causing premature wear of the sealing seals. And also clog the oil channels with particles of washed away carbon deposits.
- Special compounds that are added to the oil several hundred kilometers before the expected change. They are more gentle, but there is also a possibility of clogging of the oil channels.
- Flushing oil is the most gentle method of cleaning the engine from the inside. This composition is poured after draining the waste, the engine runs for 15-20 minutes, after which the liquid with deposits is drained. The absence of aggressive additives in the wash composition gently cleans the engine, but is not able to remove heavy contaminants.
- Regular oil that you are going to use when changing. This method is not so popular due to its high price.
Installing a filter, filling in new engine fluid
If the VAZ 2105 lubrication system is sealed and does not require repair work to eliminate leaks, you can proceed to filling in fresh engine oil. In addition to the oil itself, we may need a new drain plug, its part number 14325301. As well as the original oil filter 2101-1012005.
When everything is ready, let's move on to the bay:
- Replace the drain plug and replace it with a new one if necessary.
- We tighten and put the oil filter in place. Pre-lubricate the rubber sealing ring with fresh oil.
- Pour new oil into the filler neck.
- We check the level on the dipstick; it should be between the MIN and MAX marks.
- We start the engine, let it run for 10-15 seconds, then turn it off.
- After 5 minutes, check the level with a dipstick and top up if necessary.

Which oil is suitable for VAZ 2114
The manufacturer indicates in the operating instructions that semi-synthetic or synthetic oil with a viscosity of 10W30 is suitable for all eight-valve and sixteen-valve engines.
However, it is worth noting that this viscosity is suitable for central Russia. If the car is operated in the southern or northern regions, then it is necessary to make adjustments to climatic conditions.
The second factor determining the choice of motor oil is the presence of a catalytic converter. Some oils with a low API class emit substances harmful to the catalyst during combustion.
And if the engine is worn out, the fuel supplied is of poor quality, then, combined with inappropriate lubrication, the catalyst will fail quite quickly. Changing the catalytic element is expensive. And if you remove it, there is a high probability that you will not be able to pass inspection .
When choosing a manufacturer, you should pay attention to more modern oils. The latest requirements of European and American manufacturers include such an item as energy saving.
